For the supplies - most teachers, in an academic subject, usually require a binder, some loose-leaf paper in it, folders, dividers...you can buy these in advance if you want and wait till the first day and see how the teacher wants it arranged. You won't need to bring these things to school. Try to make these color coordinated, different colors for each subject, so you won't get them confused or anything as your rushing to your locker and through the halls.

And I would suggest bringing a backpack the first day. Bring a folder, some sheets of paper, a pen, and a pencil. Also, if you have any summer assignments, bring those the first day. Some teachers hand out textbooks the first day and other materials, so it's just easier to have a backpack with you. Don't forget to bring any forms or anything that might've been mailed to you in the summer that you have to bring back.

Bring a backpack in case you get textbooks, and a notebook and pens to write your supply lists and class notes. That's all you really need. Oh, you could also bring a couple of book socks or whatever covers you use, if your school requires textbooks to be covered. I always found it easier to bring them the first day and put them on as soon as I got the book, rather than risk forgetting and getting a fine for having an uncovered book.

Bring a backpack, because you'll probably getting books along with the supply lists.
Other than that, bring some pens and a few notebooks for the first day, because you will need those for mostly every class in the future.

it's up to you whether you bring a backpack. just bring paper and pen or pencil. lunch or money to buy something. it's better to wait and buy your supplies when you know what to buy. that way you have all that you need and don't buy something you don't need.
