My boss told me I would have to decide what was more important, when I could not find a babysitter and my oldest had pnuemonia. He said I could either find a way to show up to work, or stay at home with my sick son. Then basically told me I would be fired for not showing. I told him "You can keep your job."

That is the same thing right?

The strange thing is that two days later when I was squeduled to work, and didn't show, he called to ask where I was.... I already had another job by then.

Yes. Worked for a Jewish doc who was openly racist. She told me to interview for medical assistants but that she did not want any blacks, fat people, foreigners, men or gays. The day she fired a black woman and said" I swear I don't know why black people have such a chip on their shoulder!" I told her to take the job and shove it. She serves on the Ohio Medical board and ethics committee!!!!
