Depends on how you are qualifying it. For example, Hitchcock made a lot of groundbreaking films for the way he shot them and the way he used sound and the score. (Think about Psycho-it was chilling and yet he actually never showed the woman in the shower getting stabbed.) Or, perhaps you mean just for the acting, in which case, there are a number of Oscar winners that could be considered. Or, if you take an old school look, like from the old major studios with dancing and singing, in which case, you can't beat Singin In the Rain with Gene Kelly. Having said all that, here's a list of those who should be considered:

1) Singing In the Rain
2) Citizen Kain
3) Shawshank Redemption
4) Vertigo
5) Casablanca
6) Godfather II
7) Some Like It hot
8) Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
9) Jaws
10) Blade Runner

Hands down the best movie of all time is Thw Wizard of Oz! It was made almost 70 years ago and it is still treasured today. There are not a lot of movies that have that kind of shelf life on them. Do you think in 70 years, people all around the world will still think that "Brokeback Mountain" was cutting edge. You just can't find another movie out there that kids are still watching and still creates "that fuzzy feeling" no matter how many times you watch it!

You'll get a lot of different answers because this is an opinion thing, but for me it's The Ten Commandments. I've watched it every year since it started coming on TV, when I was about 10, and I'm 56 now.
For second, I'd probably say The Wizard of Oz.

Well, for it's time I would say "Gone with the Wind." And for our time I would say "Titanic." I like lots and lots of movies though, I could give you a list of 20 great movies I love. Usually they are drama with some comedy. I also agree with the poster who picked "Sophie's Choice." Great movie.

For a movie that has it all look to the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, it had it all, great effects, great acting, good love story (though I'm not into them), betrayal, action, suspense, etc.
