No. I wondered about this for a while regarding humans and chimps since we are so similar. Then I found out that the two species have a different number of chromosomes. It's impossible. Of course monkeys are even less related. I have to admit it would be interesting--I always found the Planet of the Apes movies entertaining if a bit disturbing.

By the way, humans are apes. We and the two chimp species are more closely related to each other than we are to gorillas. There have even been suggestions to move humans from the genus Homo into the chimpanzee genus Pan.

Edit: I just found an amusing Wikipedia article about human-chimp hybrids: humanzees, or chumans, or manpanzees. They discuss attempts to make the hybrid, as well as claims of existing ones:

Scientist experimented with this extensively in the early 1900-1940 era. They had no luck impregnating humans with apes. Or vise versa. Or even surrogate mothers. Although many Cuban prostitutes made allot of money. Also someone thought up the, King Kong story, because of these experiments.

In most cases, nature has a way of making sure that inter-species mingling of this type will not be able to happen. Usually, the sperm and egg cell are not compatible due to design or size. In other cases, issues with the genetic code itself would cause the, the scientifically improbable, fertilized egg to be miscarried. The biggest downfall though is the number of chromosomes, if they don't match nothing happens.

The way some human beings are regressing I'd say it may happen one day. All it takes is for the backward people to keep getting it on with each other for enough generations and they'll create a new species of ape.

Why in heaven would a monkey want to make a baby with an ape that shaves, eats with a fork, and can't easily swing from tree limbs?

No. We are different species and only animals of the same species can interbreed to have fertile offspring. Even if an embryo was created in a 'test-tube' and even if it grew to adulthood it would be sterile. This happens when a donkey and horse mate to produce a mule. The mule is Ok but it cant have baby mules!! The chromosomes are all wrong!
In any case who would want to???!!!

I suppose it's barely possible that humans and our closest primate relatives could hybridize and produce offspring. I'd say it's extremely unlikely, though - I'd have to see it to believe it. As for monkeys? Nah - too far apart genetically in my opinion.

With our increasing understanding and control over genetics, sure, someday we should be able to breed with monkeys, for the desirable qualities they have which we don't have.

I think it is most definitely possible as long as the reproductive organs are relatively similar. Yes. Who would do it? I have no idea, but there are always some group of scientists that try this kind of stuff.

I'm pretty sure the residents of, say, Arkansas or Mississippi or even Alabama could probably successfully procreate with apes ;)
