Please don't hate me for asking this and I mean no offense to anyone. I am just a straight guy trying to understand. I do not see what Larry Craig is accused of as a crime. I hear no voices from the gay community commenting on this nationally exposed event. My question is what is wrong in "hitting on" a guy for sex? I can see that having sex in a public restroom is not approprate, but there is no evidence to support that this was his intent. To me it seems as if he was trying to pick up a guy for sex. I can "hit on" someone at the grocery store, the local park, even at church and it is not a crime, so my question is why is it against the law to approach someone in the restroom? I personally would not like to be "hit on" in the restroom but I think it would not be a crime. I would not like to be hit on in the grocery store, park, or church either, but it seems it should not be a crime just to hit someone up for sex in this context. Please share your thoughts or ideas on this.

I understand about the sex in public thing but if I hit on someone in the grocery store or hardware store it is not assumed I would have sex in the store.

I don't get it at all. I mean, he touched feet with some guy in a stall. Now, I admit, that is weird and sort of hard to do. But, hey, depending on the size of the stall, I could see it happening. What is the big darn deal? He touched shoes with someone else. Geez! What behavior will be considered obscene next!?

The crime is not that the police officer was male it would have been the same if it was a female cop. The crime is solicitation of sex in a public place. If charged he would be a sex offender. It's not like he was hitting on the cop. It was like wink wink nudge nudge let's get it on in this stall kind of thing.

Allegedly he tapped his feet and touched his foot to the other guy, also put his hand on the bottom of the stall several times. All this indicated that he wanted sexual contact, like put your dick where my hand is and I'll whack it. I have seen this happen in rest stops in California, the one guy can fondle the other guy, even have oral sex under the stalls. Apparently this did not go to that level but he was accused of trying to intiate this kind of contact and he plead guitly to the charge.
Ive always thought that trapping people like this is a waste of time by cops, but on the other hand you don't really want actual sex going on in a place where children might see it.

Do you remember back when Bill Clinton was on the stand and he said "I did not have sex with that woman!!" Well this situation is similar. Larry Craig was caught trying to hook up with a man and when confronted about it said, "I am not now, nor have I ever been, nor will I ever be, a gay man".
His crime is hypocrisy (he is anti-gay rights) and lying.
And this is not the first time that Senator Craig has been caught trying to solicit sex so it isn't that surprising. When you are in the public eye you have to at least try to keep that part of your life private.
On top of that he is a child molester.

I don't wanna go into a public restroom and see someone having sex, or hearing it or anything.
There is a difference between hitting on and soliciting sex in a public restroom. Mr. Craig was doing the latter.

It wasn't just the tapping of the foot. It was also reaching up under the stall and actually offering sex. Therefore, he was propositioning sex. That was the crime.
That restroom at the airport has had a ''problem'' with this kind of activity. The officer that noticed, was placed in that restroom the deter this activity. But we see that the senator didn't feel that it was a deterrent.
He was charged with Lude and Mischievous activities. In Texas, that is a Class B Misdemeanor.

Solicitation. He's accused of propositioning someone for sex. Whether or not it should be a crime is another question entirely.

He not only hit on the man he kept putting his hand under the stall wall, asked the guy for oral sex and passed him his business card - indicating he was a senator and said "Does this change anything?"

The young cop is obviously a jerk who gets off having guys come on to him and arresting them. He must go home at night and beat off in the tub. I think the taxpayers ought to be furious he is paid for doing his strange obsessions. He is a wimp who is afraid to go find criminals.

He was trying to offer sex to a police officer.. He was soliciting sex in a public restroom. Just like online predators try to have sex with minors.
