Well, I'm guessing it means 'false pride' or something like that. 'Pseudo-' means false and 'Vanity' means arrogance or pride.

If I build a cabinet below or around where I wish I had a bathroom sink, I think that would be a pseudo-vanity. :-)

Pseudo means fake or "pretend"! ..and it seems that you already kno' what vanity means. ...so basically, it means that someone pretends to be vane, or care about their appearance in front of others. But once alone, they damage their bodies in different manners, such as poor diets, drug abuse, masochism, etc....

false vanity. i've heard of false humility, but I'm not sure this one even makes sense.
