Episodes of prolonged menses lasting for a month or more can infrequently occur at any age, however they are more common after age 40 and especially in the 2-4 years before menopause. Sometimes the cause is an abnormal physiologic hormonal response to a skipping of ovulation, while at other times there may be an anatomical cause of bleeding such as a fibroid, a polyp, an overgrowth of the uterine lining (hyperplasia) or even a cancer of the endometrium or uterus.

All of this means that if your girlfriend has really been bleeding for 2 months, SHE NEEDS TO SEE A DOCTOR! Go to a free clinic or gynecologist.

You're very sweet to be worrying about your girlfriend in this way. The best thing I can tell you is that your girlfriend needs to see a gynocologist ASAP. Bleeding for this long is not normal nor is it healthy and could indicate some serious medical conditions such as: cysts, tumors, cancers, endometriosis, and many others. Encourage your girlfriend to get in to a gynocologist for an exam and some tests. She may just need birth control pills to balance her hormones, or she may need treatment for something more serious.

Hope this helps. Good Luck to your girlfriend! :-)

Tell her to go see a doctor because it's not normal for a woman to be on her period for that long. I was having similar problems with my period a while back. My period would last for about two to three weeks and I was losing a ton of blood. I had to go to the hospital and get an ultra sound and a blood test. It turned out that I was losing so much blood that my iron count was low. I had to start taking birth control pills to get my period back on track and I also had to take iron tablets for a while. She needs to see a doctor ASAP.

How old is your girlfriend and why has she not sought out an answer herself by going to her family doctor or gynocologist?

Periods are not always "textbook regular" but there is no way I would have a period lasting two whole months without being concerned enough to see my doctor.

Whatever the reason is that she doesn't want to go- talk her into going or get a girl friend of hers to talk her into going.

She has abnormal menses may be due to some abnormality in hormonal level which maintain normal menstrual cycle in healthy female such as FSH, LH, Progesteron. She needs to consult some experienced gynacologist . Immediate consultation is indespensible as it may cause anaemia due to low RBC count becuse of excessive loss of blood, even low WBC count also indicative of low immunity becuase of same reason that will lead her sucseptible to various other infections.

She should go for a checkup with her gy. Really long periods can be a sign of trouble-usually. Sometimes it's just odd. For instance, my bf only has one period a year but it lasts for two months on the other hand my other friend had a period that lasted that long and was really heavy and she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer.

She needs to see her doctor ASAP as she could be becoming anemic from this. Tell her to go see her doc and get checked out ASAP in case this is something serious.

WOW

Jeez, if I were bleeding longer than two WEEKS I'd be at the doctors office on the 15th day of bleeding!

Tell her to get to a doctor ASAP!

My first guess would be uterine fibroids. My mother had them and bled for years straight.
People could guess all day as to what could be wrong with her - but the only solid advice I can give you is to have her schedule an appointment with a gynecologist as soon as possible. Bleeding for so long can cause other health issues such as anemia. It would be best for her to get it checked out VERY soon.
