I want to buy a CD for a friend in the US and send them it for a present. Will it work in the US?

Yes.

Under the 'Red Book' agreement (which regulates the manufacture of CD's), any CD bought anywhere in the world must play on any CD player in the world.

Yes, I bought Cds in US and play them in UK no problem. So I would think it works ok the other way also

yes - it's only dvd that is region locked
