J0ossie's post is frightening-- there are some really sicko's out there, that's for sure--

I feel like Michael Vick is getting what he deserves, but really he deserves much worse. He should get the same treatment he gave those dogs over the last 6 years. Oh, he's human? Well I think that is debatable at this point in time.

To those who say he is tremendously wealthy, this won't affect his wealth. Well, the Falcons are going after $22 million of his money, and it has been reported here in the press in Atlanta that Vick was down to his last $4 million before this indictment came down. He's going to have to pay his attorneys which won't come cheap, plus he is likely to have to pay attorneys to fight the charges that could be filed by the state of Va. If most of Vick's investments were as ludicrous as his investment in the BAD NEWZ Kennels, I think it would be safe to guess that he could conceivably find himself bankrupt. Which would please me to no end.

He needs to stay in jail for a long long time. As for loosing his millions, he should loose twice the amount he gambled on the dogs - whether he won or lost the bet. The money should be spent on no kill shelters for animals. When/If he gets out of jail he should not be allowed to own or be around another animal. His interaction with humans should be monitored to ensure that he is not interacting with gamblers, or those who are abusers of animals, or people. He should have to spend the rest of his life in anger management counseling, and should only be able to do things (to make a living if allowed out of jail) that do not involve football, sports, gambling, animals, or anything which might take him out of the country. He should have to "volunteer" 25 hours a week at a charity or cleaning up trash on the highway or in parks. He should not be allowed to make any money off of what he has done in the past, so no book deals, movies, tv shows, speaker circuits about football, or how sorry he for what he did , or how sorry he is that he got caught doing it. Basically he should have to work in some small town asking "Do you want fries with that?", or being a cart pusher at Wal-Mart. He should be made an example of by everyone in every aspect of life as someone who should NOT be looked up to or favored in any way.
For me, it's not that I think animals should be protected more or as much as humans. What's really done it for me is that he should know better. And because he was in the public eye in the manner he was, he should have done all he could do to keep his image clean, not only for those that look up to him but in order to keep his high paying job. While I agree that it's also about the dogs, the fact that he (someone in the public eye, that kids are supposed to look up to) did it made an abominable, horrific event, that much worse. He is the anti-hero.

I feel really good that the NFL is FINALLY starting to do something about the thug element that has gone unchecked for 20 years. We'll see if Vick gets the permanent boot after his jail sentence. I don't think anyone would sign him anyway though.

While I'm a Michael Vick fan, I found what Vick did reprehensible. However, as a vegan, I feel the rigorous condemnation of Vick for the dogfighting to be hypocritical given all of the animals that are routinely killed to provide food for the meat-eating public. It's unconscionable to me that people continue to eat meat given the horrendous way animals are prepared for food: the cramped quarters, the bludgeoning, electrocuting, necks wrung, etc. A cattleman once told me beef cows are killed as young as 18 months. Young lambs are killed much younger and not allowed to move around much so their meat remains more tender. Why no one finds this type of treatment cruel and inhumane is beyond me when you consider how Vick has been vociferously lambasted in the media and the court of public opinion.

Athletes and professional people the world over need to recognize that what's given to them is a privilege and honor that shouldn't be abused. Hopefully other athletes will learn from this, Pacman Jones and other situations where an athlete has gotten in legal trouble. Being a professional athlete does not mean carte blanche to act however you want. And that includes people like Kobe Bryant who sleep around with groupies (and any woman who is willing to sleep with an athlete who's famous just for the bragging rights or to try to hook him is the biggest idiot of all).

I also feel people who race dogs and horses for a living should look at this situation and take it as a lesson not to stress poor defenseless animals out by using them for sport.

He is still going to be a millionaire once he gets out of jail. The money isnt the issue. Its his reputation that is at stake now. Not being able to play again at 27? Well, 28 when he gets out... is HARD! Hopefully he has a fall back so that he can do something else in case he needs too. Probably doesn't though. The money again isnt an issue. Its having to give up his dream. Now that is what really sucks most.

The only reason he stands to lose millions is because he had millions to lose. And guess what? He's going to come out of prison pretty damn rich anyway. Unless of course he's managed to piss all the money he's already made away.
I have no sympathy for him at all.

he's one of those poor bastards that seem to show up in sport on a fairly regular basis;
guys who were blessed with a million dollar talent and then cursed by having a fifty cent brain to go along with it .
I'm still amazed that guys like Vick don't have one single friend who can pick them up off the ground, slam them into a wall and say " Man WTF are you doing ? WTF is wrong with you ? Why are you risking everything you worked for over this s**t? "
