I had this HUGE spider outside my front door the other day...
It had red legs and about 1/2 inch thick body, cream colored with tan spots. Anyone have any ideas?
Region: Northern New Jersey

It sounds like an American Porch Spider... Not dangerous, but when its legs are removed, it becomes deaf. Try removing its legs and tell it to run out of your porch... You will find it stays where it is, like it hasn't heard you shouting.

Hope this helps

I don't know what type of spider it would be so look it up on the computer. (type in spiders in New Jersey) I was able to find out that in your state, there are the following spiders:

Funnel Weavers
Yellow Sac Spiders
Orb Weavers

That would be Charlotte.
Within 3 days the words "Some Pig" shall appear on the web.

No, really it sounds as if it might be an orb weaver or a crab spider. You may want to ask the local nursery. They often know all the local critters in your yard.

Was it on a large web? If so, then it is probably an orb weaver. They come in many sizes, shapes, and colors, but what they all have in common is that they are very beneficial and harmless to humans and animals. They eat the buggies we'd rather not have around. Here are some pics of one similar to your description.
