Ok. Let's see your take on what might have been the most obscure one-hit-wonder. Remember, it had to have been a hit, meaning in the top ten charts, not just a song from an artist who made one single.

Points to the person who can provide the most obscure one that will make me go "Doh! I remember that song and I can't believe I had forgotten it!"

*Please, no compilation copy and paste wiki posts.

So let me get the ball rolling:

"Wishing Well" by Terence Trent D'Arby

Off they go!!!

Hahaha...

A lot of these are good, but let me interject here. A lot of songs being listed are still being played on Adult Contemporary music stations (I know because this is what we listen to at work). So that is why my qualification was "obscure".

Hopefully people who have already answered will come back and review their answer and perhaps change it, or leave it if it meets my guidelines. Otherwise, new people will read this edit.

Thanks to all! Keep them coming!

OK! They were all really good, but unfortunately I can only pick one (not that anyone is coming back to see this edit).

Anyways, I had thought about a couple more and thought I would share:

Beautiful In My Eyes by Joshua Kadison
Roll To Me by Del Amitri
There She Goes by The La's
The Rain by Oran “Juice” Jones
Standing Outside a Broken Phone Booth With Money in My Hand by Primitive Radio Gods

Hahaha...really brings back some memories.

And Andy S, I see your point about Eric Carmen having the only one hit, but in the 80's was very popular and was heard on the radio alot, especially with his hit "Hungry Eyes" from the "Dirty Dancing Soundtrak". Good choice tho...

Oh Mickey was awsome...

Too Shy was a one hit for the band, but Limahl (lead singer) went solo and went to make a hit with "Neverending Story" from the movie.

I thought Kung Fu Fighting was from Village People? Remake? (Interesting! I looked it up and the didn't! All these years I thought they did)

Tainted Love is really good but I hear it all the time on radio, so not obscure.

Same with for "What's Up"

Mexican Radio is actually a very good one! I don't hear it at all these days, but you know what? I can't remember when it came out or what i was doing around that time. Weird. I usually use music as a timeline of my life. What I was doing around the time a certain song was popular.

Rico Suave....rofl! Holy Crap! that makes me laugh. Some music was just so ridiculous! But that was a really good one!

Ah, Sex and Candy was awesome! I was really enjoying myself at around that time....ah the memories....

Thanks again to all!!!!!

But I do have a winner....

One of my favourites, "What's Up" Four Non Blondes

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOyYet6msHc

How can you not relate to these lyrics?

25 years of my life and still
I'm trying to get up that great big hill of hope
for a destination
I realized quickly when I knew I should
that the world was never this brotherhood of man
for whatever that means

chorus:
'n so I cry sometimes when I'm lying in bed
just to get it all out what's in my head
'n I, I'm feeling a little peculiar
'n so I wake in the morning and I step outside
'n I take a deep breath
'n I get real high
'n I scream from the top of my lungs
what's goin' on
and I say hey-ey-ey...
and I said hey what's going on
and I say hey... etc.
I said hey what's going on

and I try, oh my God do I try
I try all the time
in this institution
and I pray, oh my God do I pray
I pray ev'ry single day
for a revolution

(chorus)

25 years of my life and still
I'm trying to get up that great big hill of hope
for a destination

OH and hey Vetcor, Dan Hill...he had many hits...I used to see him just hanging out at the beach and playing...I've always loved him...I don't know what happened to him but he had many more great tunes...

THIS IS MY FAV. DAN HILL TUNE:

Timothy - The Buoys(1971).The song was about 3 miners who were trapped and cannibalism.Very off-beat,for any time in music history. The song quickly rose to a Top 20 hit.
