I'm from Japan and really interested in an American culture. I hope my English is understandable.
Why is Friday an important day for people in America? I often hear the phrase, "TGIF=Thank God, it's Friday!"
Does Friday have a profound meaning to American people?
Do they do something special every Friday? Party or something?
And do you know the backgrounds or history(?) of this fact? For example, when did people start to think Friday is an important day?
I'm curious to know about these.
Thank you in advance! :-)

Your English is just fine. Better than a lot of Americans.

TGIF (Thank God It's Friday) basically means that it is the end of the work week. See the link below for better info. This site will answer all of your many questions.

It's a great day because it's:

1. The end of the work/school week (not so in Japan, I know)

2. The beginning of a two day break, a ton of happy hours and a lot of people a lucky enough to get their paycheck on this day.

3. You get to wear nothing but pajamas ALL weekend, and no one thinks anything of it :)

Because for a lot of Americans, Friday is the last day of the work week and the beginning of the weekend. Good luck. 2D

it's the end of the work week, and we're relieved that we have a couple of days off from the grind, not necessarily to party, just to relax and not think about work, to spend time with friends and family and doing things we enjoy rather than work which we MUST do

btw, your english is very good...very easy to understand!!
