On the bonfire. Really it is a horrid plant with little to commend it.
If you really want to grow a grass then Stipa gigantea or a Miscanthus will give you the same height as a pampas without all the mess.
Both of these prefer a sunny position.

Apparently these plants are now classed as too 70's and are out of fashion, so I think the best position is in the bin. Sorry!

They grow well anywhere. Just remember eventually they will take up a lot of room.

Africa ! no seriously don't do it !
It will grow and grow, cut you every time you brush against it, and rats love to make tunnels in its roots.
Also it's a big plant, so unless you have a big garden.................

Also, have you ever tried to dig one up ? Trust me, you will need a JCB.

somewhere where it isnt too windy because otherwise the tall flower things get blown over

It is very invasive so plant where you have loads of space.
