This pains me to say this, but A-Rod is the best player this year. This would be a good time to go over the awards:

AL MVP: Alex Rodriguez
NL MVP: Ryan Howard
AL Cy Young: Josh Beckett
NL Cy Young: Jake Peavy
AL Rolaids Relief Pitcher Award: Bobby Jenks
NL Rolaids Relief Pitcher Award: Takashi Saito
AL Manager of the Year: Terry Francona
NL Manager of the Year: Bob Melvin

A case could be made for ARod (44 HR, 125 RBI, 121 runs scored, .305 BA), but I think the REAL best player is on the Detroit Tigers - Magglio Ordonez. Batting over .350, 26HR, 119RBIs. If Ordonez doesn't win the MVP award it will be for 2 reasons: 1) Detroit doesn't make the playoffs; and 2)ARod plays for the Yankees.

I would have to say Magglio Ordonez or Alex Rodriguez.
Maglglio leads the mlb in ba, doubles, and 1 other category
A-Rod leads the mlb in HR, RBI'S, and Runs scored

most people say A-rod which is likely since he has all those HRs but Maggs and A-rod have the same amount of extra base hits and Maggs has a WAY better average then A-rod Magglio has allot more hits and is way more consistent and is a better fielder

I say Magglio

i gotta go with jimmy rollins of the phillies over arod and others he has performed when the team nedded him most without howard earlier this year then without chase utley he will end up with unprecidented numbers this year over
30 hr
20 3b
40 2b
30 sb
80 rbi
200 h
300 total bases
less than 10 errors
500 slg%
mark my words awad will have less and less big game the more important the games get he will hit a solo shot when they are up or a big hr early in a blowout but his 8+9 inning numbers are done and if the yanks get in the playoffs... well we all know what happens then
