I found this one online, but it looks like a plain bulb. Has anyone ever used these? What did you think?

They kill bugs. but the problem is that you find yourself in a cloud of bugs who are attracted but haven't found the light yet.

It kinda defeats the prurpose

All lights attract bugs and insects, but they don't kill them.
The "zap" comes from the electrified, metallic screens between the outer cage and the bulb of the bug zapper unit
(isn't that the name of one of Frank Zappa's kids?). ;)

The bulb at the link you listed does not have to "look" special to humans. It only needs to output a wattage and/or wavelength that insects and bugs are sensitive to, but that, for the most part, humans can't see (i.e., we might see a bluish light, but the insects see a much brighter light).

However, keep in mind that bug zappers kill "good" bugs along with the "bad" ones, so, it is not the most environmentally friendly device!

This is the replacement bulb for a bug zapper.

It will attract night bugs that see in the Ultra Violent range, but won't harm them. For that, you need the bug zapper that the bulb fits into.
