In Illinois, 12 is the minimum age a child can be left home alone unattended. I do not know if it is the same all over.

Definitely not under the age of 14. But honestly, I think that depends on the child's maturity level. I've seen some 18 year olds, that didn't need to be left unattended!

my sis and I were occasional latchkey kids when my mother knew the neighbors would be home during the day... we were about 8 and 12 at the time. On days we had no neighbors home during the day, we took a different bus from school, to a babysitter's, with a bunch of other kids.
I think I was about 11 when I was a full-time latchkey kid, going home by myself. Started babysitting for other kids when I was about 13.
We were pretty mature kids though. Some of the boys I would babysit for were only a year or two younger than me, and they would be needing a babysitter for several years yet.
I don't think there is an official law on the books in regards to a particular age.

There is no UK law stating the age at which a child can be left at home alone. However, parents can be prosecuted for wilful neglect if they leave a child alone or unsupervised "in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering or injury to health" (Children and Young Persons Act 1933).

There is no age laid down in law. Most use 12 as a guideline but it really all depends on the sensibility of the child and the adult making the judgment

Do you mean legally? I'm afraid I don't know. My parents had an au pair for me up until the age of 13 and I felt that was unnecessary. But then, I was attacked by my neighbour's son 3 months after she went back to Turkey so who knows.

14 years old. But I have not yet seen or met a 14-years-old child (in the UK) that I would dare leave on his or her own for more than 5 minutes !
