I do it so often that it's more of a memory than a dream to me now. Anyone else have this experience?

Yes, especially when I was younger. It even go to the point where when I knew I might be able to fly I would try to steer the dream that way.

Some people have taken the vividness of flying in some dreams so far as to believe that their soul has left the body and traveled somewhere. It is called astral projection in that case. People have long recognized and variously voiced the perception that people are spirits inside (often using the word "trapped") a body (embodied), but that usually the separation (disembodied) means death. Another common thread, quite literally, is that many see themselves connected to the body during their 'projections' by a cord. There are even some examples in the Bible: 2 Kings 5, then reread verse 26, "Went not mine heart with thee", and then the death metaphors of Ecclesiastes 12, then note verse 6, "or ever the silver cord be loosed".

The question to you is do you fly in your dreams in order to go somewhere, in order to leave somewhere (as in escape), or is it simply a sense of freedom?

Some of my more repetitive flight dreams are what I usually call a chase scene. I start out walking, but need more speed, so I begin to run, but need more speed, and suddenly I'm on a bicycle, then a motorcycle, then a car, then an airplane, then a faster jet, and sometimes rocketing on in a spaceship, all with the feeling that I'm still not getting there fast enough. I often don't know where I'm going, but I always seem to think I need more speed to do it. If yours is that kind of flying, well you need a vacation or a less stressful job.

I've never had such dream but I can tell you some interesting things about it.I have read a book written by Dr. Newton who have put people under hypnosis and made them go back in their previous lives. These people described so many things in great details.....well I'm not going to tell you everything except that that according to his research, people who often dream that they are flying were birds or other flying creatures in their previous lives and their memoris return in their dreams. It is the same as if you dream that you are under water and e.t.c.I don't know whether it's true or not but it explains to some extent why some people have such dreams while others never had them:)

Yes. Those are my favorite types of dreams and I don't have them often enough. In one of them I just knew I could fly but didn't know how I acquired the gift. But first I had to practice. When I started out I had to kick my legs like a swimmer just to move a couple of feet. It was like learning to ride a bicycle, I wasn't very good at it first off, but soon I was soaring without even thinking of how to do it. Then I woke up.

It's strange, I always dream that I'm running and that the spaces between each step lengthens and that I'm able to float for a brief period. Then I eventually just float indefinitely. I used to freak out a bit in my dreams if I went really high, but these days, it's fun.
I always wonders to what this corresponds in my other, more mundane life.
