how do i get rid of the ultimate defender trojan virus !??!?
okay, so like 3 days ago my friend and i were having a sleepover. we were being stupid nd just fell asleep on the computer. the next morning, MY DESKTOP BACKROUND had been changed to a freaky RED ONE with a WEIRD DESIGN on it saying weird stuff. i try to get rid of it by hovering over the left side of the screen and pulling the picture away. then i figured out by going to the PROPERTIES on ur desktop, going to CUSTOMIZE DESKTOP.. you can hit WEB and click nd delete it.
BUT IT KEEPS COMING BACK.
now, I HAVE POPUPS EVERY 2 MINUTES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE HELP ME!
i dont even press OK when they come up! i click the x or no,
BUT IT STILL OPENS UP A WEBPAGE !
it also changes my homepage to UltimateCleaner 2007.
omg, i have no clue what to do!!!!!!1
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow.
That sounds like one of the untimate virus and spyware infections.
Use this tool to remove the threats:
A squared Anti-Malware Free:
http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/free/
Kaspersky AntiVirus:
http://www.kaspersky.com
Spybot S&D:
http://www.spybot.info
Download > Install > Update > Scan > Remove the threats.
Easy as that.
After those scans you will perform, you must get the updates from Windows! They are very important!!!!
Think about doing a disc check when you install the computer.
Do this:
Start > Run > "cmd" (not quotes) >
Then you must type in the command line:
chkdsk /f
Note there is a single space between 'chkdsk' and '/f' !!
Now you must change your desktop paper back to normal, and reboot your computer. Good luck with removing the threat!
Your truthfully,
Laurence.
PS: Kaspersky AV is only free before 30 days.

I can tell you what I did to my computer when I had the same problem. First I disconnected the internet connection. Then I went for a system formatting/cleaning. Then I loaded an updated version of McAfee Internet security and thereafter re-connected internet. I didn't have any problem since then. But you must make sure not to try downloading any free video player/free screensavers/any other free downloads from unknown but tempting sources. The trojan virus gets in from these sources. Adult sites/lottery sites are the most dangerous ones in this regard, try to avoid them. Don't go for free offers from unknown sources.

Ultimate Defender is a rogue anti-spyware program that uses altered desktop backgrounds, fake security alerts, and other malware to advertise and install itself. The altered desktop background is actually a link to download Ultimate Defender. That means if you click anywhere on your desktop, it will automatically attempt to download the installation program. When Ultimate Defender is run, it will automatically scan your computer and provide exaggerated or false results. In order to clean your computer from these "so-called" infections, though, you will need to pay to register the program.
Included below are screenshots of the Ultimate Defender program and the altered Windows desktop background that you would see on your computer if you were infected with it's affiliates

This probably sounds like a no-brainer, but if you have an anti-virus program then it's probably a good idea to run a scan. If you do not have one already, there is a great anti-virus program called AVG, and there is a free version of it available. The other thing to do would be to download Lavasoft's free program ADAware, which detects and removes many spyware/trojan type programs. Another good program of this sort is Spybot S&D. In many cases it is a good idea to run both of these programs. There are other programs of this sort available for free, but these are the ones I recommend. Hope this helps!

AdAware: http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

Download anti-spyware;
http://www.download-spybot.org/search_destroy.htm
Install and run, it should find the spyware associated with the trojan and take appropriate action.
download AVG antivirus;
http://free.grisoft.com/
Install and run, it should find the trojan and take appropriate action for you.
Start > Control panel > add and remove programs > Ultimate defender > uninstall
Then reboot, it should now be uninstalled.
