Well, I hate to say it, but Jose Reyes IS overrated, and Jimmy Rollins is underrated.
Jose Reyes is probably overrated, simply due to the fact that he's on a more popular team. (Same thing goes with David Wright)
Jimmy Rollins is underrated because guys like Jose Reyes take all the shortstop thunder in the NL. Jimmy Rollins is more durable and far more consistent.
If I owned a team, I'd prefer to have a guy like Jimmy Rollins, rather than a guy like Jose Reyes.
(I'm not a Reyes hater, I just think he's overrated)

Jimmy Rollins has better numbers but you have to factor in that Jose Reyes is only 23 yrs old. Jose Reyes is going to put up ridiculous numbers in a couple of years when he matures and becomes more patient at the plate. Reyes also is a better fielder and has a cannon for a arm. Plus he is a five tool player he can change the game on the bases as well on the field. We should be comparing Jose Reyes and Hanley Ramirez instead of Jimmy Rollins. Hanley is also a young athletic shortstop that put up numbers. Jimmy who? is the question you should be asking.

I'm not going to answer that Reyes is overrated because he is a darn good player. However, the last few years Rollins has definitely stepped up into a leadership role on the Phils, and definitely gotten much better. I'd have to say Rollins is the preferred player because of this, however I won't even try to disrespect Reyes's value at all. Rollins unfortunately was never a true star player until recently, and even now he is over shadowed by the likes of Howard and Utley in the Phils offense. Rollins will always be underrated because of this, but I think hitting in front of Utley and Howard is his ideal position. And looking at games this season, Rollins has played a huge part in the Phillies success.

I'll start by saying that Hanley Ramirez will be better than both of them within the next two seasons if he isn't already. However, between Reyes and Rollins, you have to take Rollins. He went from a Reyes-type player to an absolute offensive force. He plays gold glove defense and he's a team leader. Plus, he has harnessed the power that Reyes is supposed to have. Reyes will get to about 20 HR's a season in the future, but right now his game is small ball.

I think this year Rollins is far better than Reyes but I think what Reyes is doing at a younger age is why he gets a lot of publicity (that and playing for an NY team). Rollins does play in a hitter's park too but there is no denying Rollins is better this year.
That being said, I agree w\ the previous post that Hanley Ramirez will be the best out of all 3 of these guys down the road (very shortly down the road). Also, Ramirez is only 23.
Look at his comparable stats this year (and playing for the Marlins no less--only Uggla & Cabrera around him):
Hanley Ramirez
Runs:102
Hits: 174
2B: 38
3B: 6
HR: 23
RBI: 65
TB:293
OBP: .388
SB% 77.8
SLG: .557
AVG: 331
SB: 42
FPCT: .959
Assist: 306
E: 21
double plays: 79
So Rollins is definitely a better fielder but the offensive stats are pretty even w\ Ramirez hitting almost 40 pts higher, OBP & SLG better.
Either way, all 3 are great

I don't think either one is the case. I just believe that Reyes gets more attention because he's putting up these numbers at a younger age compared to Rollins. A more fitting comparison would be to examine Reyes' numbers at age 24 vs. what Rollins did at the same age. If you do that, you'll see that Reyes is miles ahead and has more potential than does Rollins to get better. Rollins is in his prime years, while Reyes still has a few years of development.
Also, your defensive statistics are a little misleading. They may have the same fielding percentage, but Reyes' zone rating is the second-best among all shortstops, while Rollins is 14th on that list. Rollins does well when he gets the ball, but Reyes simply covers way more ground.

In a case like this it would really depend on the needs of my team.
Rollins's power numbers has come from him seeing and getting better pitches to hit because of Chase Utley batting behind him. Prior to Utley, Rolllins was hitting 12 hr's a season and that has doubled over the past few seasons.
Reyes's steals is the only thing that really makes this an issue as to whom is better between the two. And even with 45 more steals than Rollins, Reyes has score less runs than Rollins has.
I will have to say Rollins is the better player as of today based on the fact that his numbers are better than Reyes's across the board on average.

Numbers only get you so far, Rollins is having a great year but Reyes has a larger up-side potential and will be the better player over the next ten years. In addition, Reyes has a stronger arm, covers more ground, and is a better all-around defensive player than Rollins. Read the response of Craig S. above, that tells it all.

The biggest thing that Jose Reyes does is get himself in scoring position by stealing 2nd and sometimes 3rd and he has a great FPCT and very few errors
but statistically Jimmy Rollins is a better player
