Ok. The guy had 3 awfuls starts in a row. But do you think that benching him and cutting out of the rotation is wrong?

So what happens to Moose next year?

In three crucial starts in a row he gave up 20 runs in 9 innings. It wasn't just that he was ineffective - he had absolutely NOTHING. Nada. Zip. No clue how to get it back.

He cannot go out there right now or he will pitch his team out of the playoffs. the Yanks will bring in Ian Kennedy and who knows how he will do. But the way Moose has been pitching, they'd be better off with TED Kennedy on the mound.

It's the right thing to do. He had his chance and he knew that if he had one more bad performance, his spot in the rotation was in jeopardy. His fastball is slow and flat. Kennedy has been 12-2 this year with an ERA under 2 in the minors. Why not give him a shot? Yankees need to give themselves the best chance to win given they're in a close race for both the Wild Card and division. Mussina just wasn't working out and the Yanks needed to go in a different direction for the time being.

Waiting this LONG was the wrong move.. Mussina padded his year, when the Yanks went through an amazingly easy part of their schedule - but Yankees fans were whispering about a fall-off in Mussina all season. It's just that, we NEEDED him (with the rest of the rotation falling apart) and any warm body would due, especially one with 240 wins.

Mussina shouldn't have been allowed to pitch to Detroit (again) a week after they creamed him -- and he showed nothing (again) in LA Angels land... Torre has to read the newspapers, to be urged to do-something (that is, to players not in his invisible doghouse).

Mussina's a drama-queen, but he'll be ok.. he needed a rest, is all.

He's been awful all year, it's the right move.

In terms of his stuff, he was a 86 mph fastball, a 86 mph changeup, a knuckle curve that does knucke or curve but gets tattooed. He doesn't seem to have that pin point control anymore, everything is up and over the plate. And it just seems that everytime he's on the mound he doesn't give the Yankees a chance to win

And this is all coming from a die hard Yankee and former Moose fan.

Father time catches up with everybody. Mussina is a good guy but the Yankees have games they need to win and Torre knows his players better than any of us.

It was totally the right move.

He has nothing. His mechanics are shot right now. He threw an 81 mph fastball in his last start. Eighty-one. Yes, eighty-one. He's leaving everything up, and his breaking stuff has barely any break.

Ian Kennedy is going to be another huge starter for the Yankees in a couple years (along with Hughes and Chamberlain). Let's see what the kid has got.

Moose will be released, contract won't be resigned or he'll be designated for assignment, Mussina will likely never pitch for the Yankees again. It's the facts.

well as a red sox fan i wish he would stay in the rotation a bit longer

but from the yankees perspective this will be great to give the kid kennedy a chance, he will also provide a certain spark to the rotation similar to what chamberlian has done to the pen

will be an interesting al east race after this last series

Well something had to be done. His last 3 starts were not only awful they were losses. Its too late in the season to get you head together. Its time to put up or sit down. I think bringing Kennedy up for a start may be a wise thing for Mike. It gives him time to retool his delivery or whatever is wrong with his game.

of course it was a good mood. the yankees are playing playoff-like games because they need all the games they can get and mr mussina gets mad because they take him out of the rotation. ridiculous!!!!! start pitching better and then talk about being mad. what you though was going to happend?
