1 cup of water, 1 tablespoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Mix togeather. Add a piece of tinfoil. You can heat it up on the stove a bit (the hot water speeds up the reaction). I do not suggest this with items that have stones. Chains or solid silver rings are fine. Never put amber in water, it will destroy the stone.
When it's clean look at the dull side of the foil. You should see it has darkened. That's where the tarnish goes.
You can also use this with ANY other silver items besides jewelry.

This technique recommended before packing silver away and is said to work especially well on intricately-patterned pieces. Wrap the entire object in aluminum foil, making sure it touches the foil at at least one point. Put some slits in the foil. Place the wrapped object in a large glass, enameled or stainless steel cooking pot. Fill the pot with a solution of 4 to 5 tablespoons of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) per quart of water. Use enough to cover the object completely. Simmer for thirty minutes. Remove the object, rinse and dry thoroughly. If tarnish remains, repeat.

I have been using toothpaste for years to clean my silver jewelry. All you do is take enough to cover the jewelry and rub it in (or use a toothbrush) and rinse.

Wright's Silver Polish - the oldest & still the best. Find it at larger grocery stores and Wal-Mart type stores with the household cleaners.
