Mark has the truck for 3 days = 3 Days * $60/day = $180

Plus they charge him $.50 per mile and he drove 150 miles which is $0.5*150=$75

Total charges = $75 + $180 = $255

Hope that helped.

There are two parts to this question, so solve it in two parts then combined it at the end.
They want to know the price he will be charged for the 3 days and the price he will be charged for driving 150 miles.

What you know: $60 a day, $0.50 per mile,
He drove it for 3 days, and went 150 miles.

The two parts are: $60 a day and he went for 3 days.
Multiply $60 by 3...answer is $180, so there is $180 right there but you aren't done yet.

He will also be charged $0.50 per mile he drives. It says he went 150 miles so:
Multiply $0.50 by 150...answer you get should be $75.

SO between the two situation that the company charges for you have $180 for the amount of days he had the truck for and $75 for the amount of miles he drove the truck...so add them together to get the total cost that the company will charge him.

$180 + $75 = $255

hope this helps,
Josh

let the # of miles be x and the total rental cost be y
we know that the fixed cost per day will $60.
we get an equation for the cost of renting a truck for 1 day -
y =(1) 60 + 0.5x
since the question says that mark rents the truck for 3 days and drives for 150 miles, we can substitute these values in the equation to get,
y = 3(60) + 0.5(150)
y = 180 +75
total cost = $255

hope that helped

This smells like homework, anyway:

total charge = $60/day * # of days + $0.50/mile * # of miles
total charge = 180$ + 75$ = 255$
