Jake Peavy 15-5 2.18ERA 197K 1.05WHIP
The guy is on a roll right now with 5 wins in August and and 53Ks in 6 starts. Not to mention 11Ks in each of his last 3 starts. Not to forget the 4 games in a row of 10Ks earlier in the season (one game was 16Ks). He's got nasty stuff his pitches just go everywhere. He matches velocity with incredible command and just sick movement. Hitters just cannot pick this guy up.
Notables:
Johan Santana 14-10 3.06ERA 200K 1.05WHIP
Probably one of the best lefties we will see in our time. This guy is just tough against anyone. He's probably got the best changeup in the game right now.
Brandon Webb 14-9 2.83ERA 170K 1.18WHIP
Those control problems seem to be a thing of the past for Webb. 42 scoreless innings is masterful in this day and age. The guy can get a ground ball against anyone with any of his pitches. All have great sinking movement. One of the better sinkers today.
Dan Haren 14-5 2.72ERA 157K 1.11WHIP
Finally became what everyone expected of him, and has just silently put up great numbers this year. He doesn't overpower you but have very decieving pitches and always has good command.

Chien-ming Wang
16-6 with an ERA of around 3.5-3.7
Pitched 2 "almost" perfect games this year
1 against the Mariners and 1 against the Red Sox
Ace of the New York Yankees
Pitches into 7,8, or even 9 innings at a time
Very economical with about 13-14 pitched per inning
Only lost 1 game in the whole summer
Amazing sinker and has about 26 double plays
And Most importantly
He's from Taiwan.

Jake Peavy, he leads or is second in several categories.
A close second would be Josh Beckett/Brandon Webb. Don't need to include Zambrano as he has imploded since he got his contract.
W L ERA SO
Peavey 15 5 2.18 197
Beckett 16 6 3.29 158
Santana 14 10 3.06 200
Webb 14 9 2.83 170

The hottest pitcher right now is Tim Wakefield. The pitcher having the best year is probably Jake Peavy. He has the second most wins of any pitcher (15), and the lowest ERA in the league (2.18). the second lowest WHIP (1.05) and the third lowest BAA (.200)
NOTE: To the person that said Zambrano, he hasn't won one game in August. His last win came in late July right before he signed his big contract.

One of the best and possibly the most underrated players this season is by far Tim Wakefield. He has quietly pulled into a tie for wins in the MLB, and he is one of the most consistent hurlers out there. I mean, the guys gotten a decision every time he takes the field, and steps onto the rubber. You can tell by the third inning whether or not he's got his stuff.
He also might be one of the biggest comeback players this year. At one point, Wake had the most losses in the MLB, several years back. Look at him now; getting older and getting better.
I find it remarkable. Wakefield, underrated knuckleballer, IS the best pitcher in the MLB.

I'm gonna say Chris Young of the Padres.
He can consistently have a 1.00 WHIP, 2.00-3.00 ERA, and 15 wins. He has great future in San Diego and is a young and still blooming pitcher.

Andy Pettitte because he is a winning pitcher. he has the most wins of any pitcher in the Torre era. and he has one heck of a pick off move, which works every time.

AL Johan Santana. He has had constantly 20 wins lower than 3.00 E.R.A.'s season every year, I believe he is the next 300 wins season.
NL Jake Peavy. Just Look at his stats then come back and try and argue with them, you cant.
