My so called "friend' has a little girl named Madison who is turning a year old on Sept. 3 she told me she wants to name her little girl who she is 5 mnths preg with now Addison. How rediculous is this, just wondering if I'm the only one who finds this completly stupid.

Well, of course it's stupid. I mean, really. But I am not sure what good can come of you telling her. I mean, surely she has to have noted how nearly identical those 2 names sound.
And does she have any idea how COMMON these names are? you can't toss a frisbee in my town without whacking a half dozen Mad-or-Ad-disons.

I'm not a fan of the name Addison but I also have a daughter named Madisyn, who will be 3 in December, and my name is Madilyn. Both are unusual spellings and I hesitated with Madisyn at first, especially because my mother and grandmothers names are also close-Melody and Marilyn, but I love it and I wouldn't have it any other way. It might sound strange, but I feel like we have a little more of a special bond because our names are so close.
My daughter also has 3 cousins, 1 from her dad's brother and 2 from her dad's sister, with very similar names. They are Destiny, Deviny, and Delliny. It's very confusing for some people but I think it's cute. I know alot of families who are starting to name their kids with similar, or "matching" names.

Rhyming names? I'm not a fan- and, Addison is a popular name right now.
But even though I'm not a fan, I wouldn't go around talking about how awful the names are. Especially if they were the names of my friend's kids.
Thanks for the 2 pts.

I do think that is quite ridiculous. Children should be individuals. I don't even agree with matching names for twins let alone siblings. However Madison is a beautiful name!

yeah i think its a little odd though they are both cute names the confusion will be a problem every time she calls one they both will come running especially if they end up with nicknames like Maddy and Addy LOL she basically giving them the same name just without the M

That's not very creative. To me, that's like naming your kid John Jr. At least she could name the baby something else with an M. Mattie, Madeline, Maureen, Mandy, Melanie..etc.

Cheesy!
Am I the only one who thinks of Addison as a man's name? It does mean Son of Adam....

Okay, nevermind the fact that she is using two boring and stupid names (one boy name and one disease), but seriously, does she not see the problem with names that sound exactly alike?!?
Poor kids; their mom sounds like an idiot.

I think it will be very difficult. I have mentioned on here before someone I know who named their son Tyler and daughter Taylor. They ended up calling their son TJ because of the confusion.

I personally don't care for it, but I guess you can't tell anyone what to do, especially when it comes to their kids! I would go as far as names beginning with the same letter (ie. Thomas and Taylor), but rhyming names just sounds so chichi.
