My goldfish is terribly ill. He's always had a healthy appetite, but for the past two days, he's been lying on the ground. I have 3 other goldfish, all fine. But this one is now lying on it's side, and has a speck of cloudiness in it's eyes....what can I do? Can I call petsmart to help? PLEASE HELP ME!

my goldfish is about I'd say about 4-6 inches long. I have had it for 5-6 years. It's been the healthiest of them all. The filteration and everything works fine....it's a 29gallon tank with 4 goldfishes....(including the sick one). After doing some research, the most similar problem I could find would be that of dropsy....but I'm not sure.

Thanks for the help you guys. Unfortunately my goldfish passed away. We isolated it, and even put the medicine in. It didn't seem agitated but soon after, the breathing lessened, and it passed away within an hour of moving the fish. Thanks for the help though.

There are things you can do to help not only him; but your other goldfish.

How large is the tank? Is there a filter? Do you have aeration? Do you have water test strips?
Are there any markings on his body besides the cloudy eyes? How long have you had him? How many inches long is he and the other fish?

[EDIT;] It sounds like the tank is too small. Goldfish produce a LOT of ammonia.... and 4 goldfish in a 29 gallon is too tiny for them all to be healthy. A 6 inch goldfish in there is also a problem.
Now... if there were about 2 goldfish in the tank, that would probably be healthier. =]
He may be getting sick due to ammonia; though to see if it was dropsy or not, I'd have to actually /look/ at him. xD You probably know best since you can see his movements and such.

From what it sounds like to me, however, is a case of ammonia.

Check your water. high ammonia causes cloudy eyes. High ammonia is from overstocking, new tanks, overfeeding, water changing neglect, inadequite tank like a bowl.
4 goldfish need to be in a 55 gallon tank. If they are in much less than a 20 gallon none of them are likely to survive long.
When a goldfish stops eating its likely real close to death, especially when curling (the laying on side behavior) occurs. You've made some sort of mistake, and I'm afraid there is not enough info here to find out what that is. So these are guesses as to what is wrong. Be more specific about the tank and what you've done to it recently.

Hi Shika, -How big is your tank? I'm guessing it is small & you have not done any water changes? Check your parameters if you have test kit. Without any additional info it's difficult to assess the situation but almost certainly you have bad water conditions-is he the largest fish & do you have an airstone running? Larger fish are almost always the first to succumb to problems of poor water/oxygenation. Immediately do a 50% partial water change with treated, same temperature water, siphon your gravel & gently rinse the filter media in old tank water [you need to only be removing the loose debris from both gravel & filter media]. If you can post additional detail please do.
