I've been watching American Idol for a while and I enjoy it but somethings I just don't understand about it. My main problem with it is the winners they choose and the people they send home. The show is supposed to find someone with an amazing talent in the singing category, right? So how come they sent amazing singers home like Jennifer Hudson, Lakisha Jones, Paris Bennett. You may find that they all have something in common, they are black women with such powerful voices. I know I have left some other fantastic contestants but these people just came off the top of my head. The women that I have listed can sing much better than Taylor Hicks or Katherine McPhee. Don't get me wrong they have talent, but can you picture them belting it out with such power and without flaw? So that gets me thinking, American Idol is living up to its name, it isn't technically searching for the best talent, but someone who looks like the next big thing in America. Anyone Agree? No harsh answers please!

Omigosh I am not turning race into an issue! I am not racist about anything. I am talking about lets say the contestant has an amazing voice but she is a single mom who doesn't have a great job and is old. Or a girl who grew up in not so great circumstances or heck I think their weight is even an issue. I know that Ruben won I know all about that. But I am not racist, I just think that they want a certain image that some people can't attain.

Again I say I am not racist! I agree that one guy, Katherine McPhee is a better singer than Taylor Hicks. I know that america is the one that chooses which is what I was getting at, America just wants another typical singer to look up to, they aren't changing the music world whatsoever.

I agree with you. Sometimes I don't believe the shows that have America vote for the winner because it never seems to be true, and that is why I no longer care about watching TV.

One time, I was at a theater and at the back of it they were filming the show called Next, and as I was watching them film it, I discovered that they tell the people exactly what to say and do when it was suppose to be a show where the people went on dates. Everything is so fake nowadays!

You are forgetting the whole premise of the show, America votes who goes home & who stays. It is not Black vs White, if that was the case Fantasy(don't know how to spell her name) & Ruben would not have won. I personally think that McPhee sings better then Hicks, and from season #6, I think that Melinda sang better then Blake. Some people think the whole show is a joke, look at all the singers that got voted off BEFORE Sanjaya, who out of all the episodes, he had 2 nights were he sang extremely well.

I agree - but it's up to the American public to vote! Most importantly, it's who's marketable and with the general public voting - that's who "technically" should be a top seller in CD sales... it's not always the strongest singer that will prevail. But - the plus side is they get publicity from being on the show and can get a fan base for when they release their own cd.

Um, Fantasia was black. Ruben was black. Don't blame american idol. It's the people at home that vote. If you're concerned that not enough black women are making it, get a bunch of your friends to call in and vote for the black people. Btw, Lakisha wasn't that good. The others you listed were.

It's America that votes and you can only have one winner. Why are you trying to turn it into a "race" issue (you're forgetting about Rubin). Obviously, record producers/talent agencies see who the true talents are...the true talented people have recording contracts, academy awards, etc.
