1D - a line
2D - a plane
3D - a box, or space
4D - time

There are currently 26 dimensions that we know of, in theory of course.

However, some propose that there are infinity:

Dimension is pretty hard to define. And in mathematics you can have an infinite amount of dimensions. you can describe a point in three dimensions but lets say that point moves as time changes, you can just add a new dimension t and describe that point as . you can always add a dimension if you need help distinguishing or describing an element. and dimensions dont have to be like 1, 2, 3, or 4 dimensional, the cantor set is something like 2/3 dimensional.

Anything that can be measured is called a dimension. The quantity to which we relate dimensions are basically four and only four in the Universe.
The four quantities in the Universe are mass(measured in kilograms), Distance (measured in Unit of lenght=meters),Time(measured in Units of seconds) and finally the Angle(measured in units of degrees.
All dimensions in the Universe are in terms of these four quantities.
These are the real dimensions.
However; there exists also imaginary volumes and dimensions which are used to represent the real variables.
Hence a manifold which represents an imaginary volume may have more then three physical dimension of space .In random variables the whole space representation may have from one or several millions to Nth space dimensions. WE live in a world that defines what we can touch and feel is the reality of our existence.OUtside of that its purely imaginary.

We can experience up to the 4th dimension (0-point, 1-lines, 2-planes, 3-volume, 4-time) but higher than that we can't physically see or experience. There are many theories out there that suggest higher than 20, but these haven't been proven, and it is not completely accepted by all scientists either.

If we could see in the 4th, when we looked at someone we would be able to see their entire life from birth until death.

There is a really cool video that helps us visualize up to 10 dimensions. This is only one theory, but it's still really cool to think about.

There are the three standard dimensions, width length and height, the fourth is time.

We've created shapes up to the... fifth or seventh dimension, I think. We've proved the existence of twelve, and we suspect at least 26.
