Does the vehicle turn over, or when you turn the key, nothing happens? It could be a starter motor.

Faulty car batteries and connections are kind of like women ...temperamental. :) When you have bad things going with your starting/charging system, you can start your car fine one time and the next, it flat refuses. I would first make sure that your cables and battery post are clean and that you are getting a good connection. Less likely, the other ends of the battery cables will be loose. The negative wire to the frame, the positive side to the starter. You can try all day to jump start another car off, but if you have a bad connection(s), you will not likely start it. Also bad cables will keep your battery from charging properly. After cleaning them , you can apply Vaseoline to the battery posts and connectors to cut down on corrosion in the future. Now make sure they are on tightly. Corroded or loose battery posts connections are very common with a faulty starter/charging system.
Take it to an auto parts store like Auto Zone or Advanced Auto and they will check your battery, starter and alternator free in about 10 mins. This most likely will fix you up. One other person mentioned the solenoid, check his list out if this does not correct the problem.

Yes, it sounds like you need a new battery, I had a similar situation happen to me not with a husband in the hospital god love your heart, but I made a trip to Walmart and asked them to change the oil, they paged me and said we can't get it started, and I said "What!" I was shocked and they ran a test and confirmed the battery had died. I was humiliated, you can always try leaving your lights off when you have it jumped that way there is no pressure on the battery besides the jumping. Try that, but you definately need a new battery.

i had a problem similar not that long ago during the winter time, i have a 92 honda accord it was my distribuator cap had a crack in it. My Lights worked, my radio worked, but the car wouldn't turn over, my battery was almost to new. Also if its not that it may be it needs a new coil . Don't ask me what the coil is I have no idea what that is and what it is for.

you need to check the connections on the battery also,i have seen battery,s die like that before ,they just up and die all the sudden, all you can do is try and replace it and see if that's it or take it out and have a parts store check it,this may not be the battery it may be the starter that has gone out of it,that too can be checked, but you,ll need some help probably on this one,i hope you get it going ,good luck.

a battery does sometimes just pack in .there is an open circuit then---- no continuity through the battery and you will not jump start the car but if you disconect the battery then you should be able to jump start the car, if not then the starter is probably the problem

If the lights stay on and brite, when you try to start it ,the battery's ok.If the go out or dim so low they are hard to see then the battery is questionable. Take the battery out and go to auto parts store they can load test it for a shorted cell.....George

not enough info, but there are only 5 things it could be.
1. battery
2. starter
3. starter solonoid/relay
4. battery or starter cable
and finally,
5. the ignition switch
all are relatively inexpensive fixes.
