I turn mine off at night - I don't see the practicality of running it when you're not enjoying it! I DO leave it running all day, however. :)

No it is not necessary for a pool pump to run 24/7. Generally most apartment blocks with access to an inground pool will run their filter system for no more than 4 to 5 hours per day. A couple of hours first thing in the morning and a couple of hours in the late afternoon. Set the timer to switch on and off. That is provided sufficient pool maintenance including chemical additives and PH water balancing is done weekly during the summer months. During the winter months the pool should have a pool blanket fitted to keep the water temperature as high as possible; and then the pool pump should be run for about an hour per day to keep it functioning properly.

I have never run mine 24/7. I don't know which cleaner you have and you may not get the results I do. I only run mine at night for about 3 hours and my pool is spotless. The only time I will run it longer is after a storm. I am assuming you have a timer on your pool. If so run it a couple of hours a day for a week, check the results. If you are not happy with them increase the time by an hour. Repeat and increase the time if you need to until you are happy with the results. I can't justify using 8-12 hours worth of electricity, just because some one said to, when 3-4 hours will do the job. You will still have to sweep the pool from time to time, you can't expect the auto cleaner to get everything. And check the chemicals on a regular basis. My pool is 15,000 gallons. So while it is not as large as yours , it is by no means a kiddie pool. Hope this helps.

I think running the pump 24/7 is a waste of money and electricity. Both pools I have owned had the pump running a maximum of 6 hours a day unless I was adding chemicals. Continuous cleaning makes no sense to me unless you live in a very dusty area.

I think you are asking about when you open the pool for the season. When you first open the pool it is apt to look pretty bad, depending upon what type of cover you had on it. Until it is clear, you will want to run it 24/7, backwashing frequently. Our previous pool took at least a week to clear up - maybe two - because we had a mesh cover that let in water and light.

Not at all!
The only time I run my pump 24/7 is if some heavy-duty cleaning needs to be done to filter lots of debris out of the water.
I do run the pump longer in the summer, but cut back those hours in the winter. Typically in summer, I run it for at least 8 hours; longer if I have swimmers. Winter I run it for about 4 hours.

the pump has to circulate allll the water at least once depending on the flow rate of the pump and the gallons in the pool you could figure that out.....i build pools for a living and never once have i used this equation.....let the pool run a minimum of 6 hrs during the hottest time in the day......and please check your chlorine and acid levels......but also the stabilizer....and calcium.....these will save yo money because you will use less chlorine and acid

No, it doesn't have to run 24/7, just most of the time.
