battle royale between Sublime, 311 and Goldfinger? I’ve been pondering this one for a while. Part of the inspiration came from another question some time ago (I’ll protect their identity). How would you rank these bands in order? How do you justify your decision? I think this might be close, although it shouldn’t be. My answer may shock you

GK Dub - I totally agree with you, we all could use some more fun in our music.

Sookie - The key is what you HAVEN'T heard from Goldfinger that should make you want to drop everything and throw down the $12 for the self-titled CD. Ranks right up there with Jawbox. :)

kontrolfreak66 - You know I'll always have mad love for you and all the lyrics quizes but how can you make that statement? A day hasn't gone by in the last 13 years where I haven't heard a Sublime song. Explain to me how they are "underground."

Spooky - Love Song is just a terrible song, period. I don't think 311 killed it. To me, it was more like mutilating a corpse. They shouldn't have touched it. Goldfinger is way better than freaking Good Charlotte, lol.

1. 311
2. Sublime
3. Goldfinger

I'm a long-time 311 fan. I adore them, and their earlier work especially - their blend of funk and rock appeases most of my musical sides.

I must admit that I'm only familiar with Sublime on a single basis. I dig what I've heard on the radio, though - there are a lot of layers there which makes their sound very diverse.

I hardly know Goldfinger at all. What I've sampled isn't bad, but it's not enough to make me go out and buy anything.

Edit: hmmm...that's a BOLD statement! Are you sure you want to make it? You can reconsider and take it back if you need to.

Sublime , 311 then Goldfinger. I've only heard 1 Goldfinger song, a remake of 99 red baloons, wich I enjoyed. I would have to hear more to really be fair. Sublime, however has enthralled me for years. 311 I have to be in the mood for. Goldfinger is categorized as "punk" rock. The other 2 contestants are nowhere near the "punk" category, closer to reggae or pop/rap. I wanna hear more Goldfinger to see what they got.

Sublime or Goldfinger for #1? That IS tough...

Goldfinger, Sublime (not far behind), and 311 (quite a ways away).

Don't get me wrong, I do like 311 but they never appealed to me the way Sublime and Goldfinger did. I gotta hand it to 311 for having an outstanding bass player though!

Goldfinger got my #1 because they're such a tight punk rock band. "F*^k You And Your Cat", what a sweet song.

#1 Sublime
#2 311
#3 Goldfinger...

Sublime was the superior band in my opinion. I justify my position as follows....
Goldfinger is on the same level as Good Charlote in my opinion.. more pop punky crap that I just can't tolerate... Spokesman and 99 red Balloons... need I say more?
311 had like one good album.. and that was back in 95, then they went to crap, and they MURDERED love song, and shall never be forgiven in my book... The band members DID fight Scott Stapp, so that's bonus points in my book, but they still couldn't beat out Sublime...
Every album was a winner, even after Brad died... I can still listen the the self titled album and 40 oz to Freedom all the way through and never get sick of it...

I'm really wondering if your answer is going to shock me... but hey, we all have our opinions!

Sublime are the best because their music simply is sublime- the singer's amazing, the guitar solos kick *** and yet they still play chilled songs in a sort of semi reggae style- fantastic

Then Goldfinger cos they're amzing too

then 311 cos they're not nearly as good!

I'd put them in order of 311, Sublime, and Goldfinger.

I used to hate 311, but later my love for Incubus bridged a taste for them. This is when I decided that all music I listen to doesn't have to be dark and angry...it can be fun to. 311 is a fun band who continues to put out solid albums, and they put on a great live show.
Sublime is ok, I never got into them too heavily, but they've got a few songs I like.
Goldfinger is just too punk/ska related for my taste. I've only heard a couple songs from them anyway.
