That's crazy; I'm 20, 5'2 and 98 pounds. I hadn't had my period in 13 months and my doctor put me on Loestrin 24 for the same reason. After a month on the pill, I had a bleed, but I've noticed my pants feel tighter. I HATE IT. I've always eaten healthy and exercised, but to maintain my weight now, I have to cut back on my intake. My doctor said this side effect may go away after three months when my body adjusts to the hormones, but waiting is a pain. Also, you would think that because I'm eating less and exercising more that I would be losing weight- not so.
I would try it because everyone reacts differently to the pills, but I, like you, am a perfectionist, and hate not being able to control my weight.
I hope this wasn't too much of a downer, but I ran across your question and could totally relate because I'm in the exact same position. Good luck!
Oh, also, I used prometrium for a week to have a withdraw bleed and that worked just fine. I was only supposed to take it every 4 months, so there wasn't any risk for weight gain, but it did make me really dizzy b/c I'm so small.
Again, good luck!

The pill itself won't make you gain an ounce. Its the food that you put in your mouth that makes you gain weight. And SOMETIMES (though not always) the pill might cause some cravings. If you don't recognize them for what they are, you will be more likely to eat whatever it is you're craving and might put on some weight.
The normal average is about 5 lbs.... some women actually even LOSE weight sometimes on the pill.
So just be aware of what you're eating.

Some women gain weight and others don't. I personally did and I was very skinny and could never gain weight. I gained 25 pounds. Now don't let that scare you. Plenty of women have no problems with weight gain. I suggest just exercising, eating healthy during this time.

Some woman gain 5lbs and some gain ZERO. I personally never gained weight from birth control. Eating healthy and exercising will help combat the side effects of birth control. If you are overly concerned talk with your doctor he/she can help pick the correct birth control for you. To be completely honest gaining 5lbs is better than the complications of not having a period.

Maybe all the stress of being a perfectionist is keeping your periods away???? Maybe you just need to lighten up. You have some room to gain anyway and girls with curves are more attractive to guys. The whole anorexic model thing is driven by women, not men.
