Go over to the nearest old folks home and hug an old timer, they appreciate it more than you know, and helping someone else usually helps you to. Love is the only thing you can give away and actually gain in return.

Buy a bum a hamburger at McDonald's it ain't that hard to find a homeless person who has more reason to be depressed than us, believe me it could be worst that this. Just having a computer that can access the net and the ability to read this answer is reason enough to brighten your day.

Depression sucks, I wish I really knew how to shake it, but truth be told, it really doesn't matter what the activity is, the key is doing "something". If you are active, at least for me, you tend to be distracted and less depressed. Good luck.

It totally depends on how long (you said a while now) and how severe. My advice is to seek counseling from a professional. You shouldn't let this go any more than you should let something physical go. Your mental health is just as important.
Remain positive, try to think of things that will help you focus on day to day things and never be around people that might bring you down more. Make sure you're taking care of yourself physically as well because they affect one another. This is not something to play around with.... I know, I suffer from depression and have for a while.
Good luck and take care of YOU! And check out the site that Fairymatita mentions above... I joined it. :)

If you think that you have chronic depression (lack of happiness - day in, day out), lack of sleep, appetite, weight, etc.) you should go see a psychiatrist who could evaluate you and see if you need to be on anti-depressants. They do a world of difference, IMO. IF you're just feeling blue, do things that make have made you happy in the past - call a friend or a relative, go out for a walk, read a good book, go fishing, surfing, biking, hiking......I hope you feel better soon!

If it's gone on quite a while, it's depression, not feeling of depression. You may need medical intervention (pills).
To ease the feeling, you need to get active at something, and you may not be able to do that without medication.
Either way, get active in something to (1) get your adrenaline up and (2) get yourself out of your own head. It can be anything - a sport, a band, volunteer at the dog pound, anything at all. It could be your own business, like making and selling jewelry or something.

Try to think of how bad it really could be, bad health, homeless, no family or friends. There are a lot of people who are a lot worse off than you, be thankful for what you DO have.
I know it's hard, but my motto is " This too shall pass", and it will I promise. I have a hard time trying not to be depressed myself so I try to remember everything I just told you. I hope this helps, even a little bit. God loves you and so do I. : )

Walk. Look around you and feed your mind with nice scenery. Feed the birds or ducks and get close to nature. Sit on the grass and watch people. If the whole street threw all their problems out the window, we would all run out and grab our own. Cheer up, smile and treat yourself to something nice, even if it's only a bag of chips.

1. don't sit around inactively, in front of the tv or the computer. when your body is dormant, you mentally become lethargic. go to a coffeeshop, sit outside with a magazine and people watch.

2. spend time with friends. if you don't like your friends, go find new ones. and don't convince yourself this is as hard as it sounds, it's not.

3. instead of doing something for yourself, do something to benefit other people, or a litter of puppies.
