Does anyone besides myself think that Hollywood should make an old fashioned horror movie, set in the 1800's with Dracula, the old haunted castle, the fog and mist, the wolves howling? I miss these old movies the way they used to make them. I personally think they should bring them back to the big screen, what do you think?

Well, they basically did that with Bram Stoker's "Dracula"...although that movie is 15 years old now, but it still feels pretty recent. A few years ago they did "Van Helsing" but that was such a let-down, they could've done so much with that movie. But I agree with what you're saying, I'm tired of these lame slasher films for teenagers.

Modern horror movies rely far too much on special effects, blood & guts, & extreme makeup to create horror. All those are good & can enhance the film, but the filmmakers today need to take lessons from the past masters in the use of atmosphere. That's all the Blair Witch Project was. Atmosphere. No great acting, no script, pure atmosphere. Bring back the mist-shrouded moors. The screams behind locked doors. I would love to see a return to good film-making as opposed to (as Stephen King refers to it) going for the grossout.

I think that'd be kinda cool to have something like Nosferatu brought back to this time (though that's basically redundant to what you just said). It'd give a lot of the younger folks an idea of how horror movies used to be, rather than the egregious display of mutilation you often see in today's "newer" horror movies (last one I saw was the Texas Chainsaw Massacre remake, and I have no idea why).

i think there is only a handful of us that would pay to see them. i love the old stuff. it had such atmosphere. no blood and guts, just a good imagination. the mummy movies were some of my favorites. the uninvited was a great one too. i could go on and on.
it would be cool if one of the smaller theaters would have a marathon or something.

Yes that would be good.
I agree the new horror movies are not
the same. They are not very scary either.

They do it every so often. Such as the movie: THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN or UNDERWORLD or even Bram Stoker's DRACULA.

They go back to the basics every so often.
