I am taking the Philidelphia Phillies here. The Mets have been crumbling as of late, and you can expect that to continue... Sorry all you Amazin' Believers, but you DID need Pedro. The Phillies seem to get it done, Jimmy Rollins said they'd be the team to beat this year, and he, personally, has kept his word. In my opinion, this year's NL MVP has been a 5 tool beast, showing up in opposing pitchers' nightmares as he will finish 30/30 with a BA near .300 and an RBI total near 100. Certainly there are better defensive shortstops in the NL (Namely a man from San Fran by the name of, Omar Vizquel), but I assure you, the defense IS there. Beyond Jimmy, the Phillies have it all from young guns like Ryan Howard, veterans like Jamie Moyer, and guys you just can't describe any way other than just the best second baseman in the game in Chase Utley. The NL will come down to the Phillies, Brewers, Padres, and D-BACKS, and I'm puttin my money on Philly.

the key to any playoff run is strong starting pitching, and in particular, 3 good starters. Therefore, the San Diego Padres will represent the National League in The World Series. I really like the peavy + young duo, and hopefully maddux will step up and win a few playoff games to solidify that rotation. As long as their starters pitch half as well as they have all season, (young =1 and peavy =2 in ERA in all of MLB) their bullpen doesn't blow any big leads, and their offense musters 4 or 5 runs/game, the padres are my favorite to make the world series from the NL

I am leaning towards the Cubbies unless one of the NL West teams break out. I think Carl Zambrano will be the key strength that determines their fortune. Zambrano has been shaky lately, but if he comes back to form, watch out.
If it ends up being the Cubbies, that's probably good for the American League opponent. (Note: See "Billy Goat" or "Steve Bartman")
There's lots of other good sports analysis at http://sports-handicapping.blogspot.com
Enjoy the rest of the season! I can't wait for the playoffs.

I think the Cubs have a legimate shot if they can get past the Mets and or Phillies. By the way, the Phillies worry me more than the Mets, because they have some pitchers who are pretty good.
