By bus city tours or if you feel like splashing out hire a helicopter!

Take the Bus Touristic. It is quite expensive 19 euros for an adult and 11 for a child. You do however get vouchers to enter a number of attractions at discount prices.

The alternative is to buy a good guide book, decide what you want to see and take a taxi. This could end up cheaper and you do not have to visit sites of dubious interest such as Nou Camp with no match being played.

The tour buses are great . . . one shows you the south of the city and the other the north. It takes a while but well worth it and you can hop off and on at any of the stops. It's really the best way to do it if a day is all you have.

Consider a city tour. Then they will take you by bus around and you can see the sights without worrying about driving.
You can also make a plan to include the particular sights that you do not want to miss. And then route yourself so that you have them in order and won't waste time searching around.

Definitely try the "Bus turistic". Start as early as possible so you make the most of your visit.
You don't want to miss these:
- Sagrada Familia
- Casa Batllo (just across La Pedrera)
- La Pedrera
- Las Ramblas (keep your wallet safe, try not to look as tourists, it's difficult I know, but it's for your own safety)
- Olympic ring (if you like sports it may interest you)
- Picasso museum
- Miro museum
In one day you cannot do more.

Rent a helicopter to hover around Barcelona.....it will take u less than 10 minutes.
