I'm 16 and virgin, but I haven't had a period in almost 5 months. My doctor said it is common, but I'm still worried. Is it just because I'm young that I've skipped so many months? I'm 5'2 and around 100 pounds so I'm not underweight or anything, but I do workout quite a bit. My doctor said it would regulate eventually, but how long will I have to wait? I feel so unhealthy.

Yes it will regulate in time, as you are young your hormones are in great imbalance. You have till you are 18 years old, for your hormones to find a balance and have regular periods. it is very normal due to your age. There are women who have never had a period on their 18´s.
You shouldn´t be worried at all, but if it bothers you; you can actually go to your gyn and he will give you bc pills, to regulate your period, He can give you the best bc pills for you, you have a good age to take them and don´t damage you and you can have benefists such as great skin and hair among others.
And don´t worry, stress delays your period more.
I ma showing the causes of amenorrhea (no period) I am not saying you have, but supression of periods is due to the same reasons.
Amenorrhea Causes
Functional causes
Anorexia/bulimia
Chronic diseases (for example, tuberculosis)
Excessive weight gain or weight loss
Malnutrition
Depression or other psychiatric disorders
Recreational drug abuse
Psychotropic drug use (drugs prescribed to stabilize or improve mood, mental status, or behavior)
Excessive stress
Excessive exercise
Cycle suppression with systemic hormonal contraceptive (birth control) pills
This are some reasons of not having your period, but you cannot be considered amenorreic, due to your age.
Good luck! ;D

It is not uncommon for athletic women to experience irregular periods. Also, I will not advise that you need to gain weight. That is an issue only your doctor can advise. If your doctor says you are healthy, then don't worry about it. It can be scary and not having your period can make you feel weird, but trust your doctor.
Happy Friday!

there's nothing to worry about at all. you're still young, so you're going to be irregular to begin with. you are also very active (like me), so sometimes that effects your period, too. you're perfectly healthy, though. especially because your doctor says you are.
and to Ronnie, i don't think that she is underweight at all. she said she is athletic, so she is probably in great shape. I'm 5'4" and weigh even less. she just lives an active and healthy lifestyle!

Every girl goes through this and it is normal! Since your so active that is probably what is delaying it (which is not a bad thing!!!) You'll have irregular periods for the first year or so!
Good luck and God Bless!

The doctor said there is nothing to worry about, so please don't fret.
My periods were in no way regular (for many years) until I got on birth control pills.

You are kinda underweight. You should be about 110 at that height. Try at least gaining that much and see if it helps. You may also go up a cup size which would be an added bonus :-D
btw, thanks for all the thumbs down everyone, but it's not your weight that so much affects your periods as it is body fat %.. there's the rule of thumb that girls under100lbs won't get their period, but it depends how tall you are and how much of you is muscle. you could be short and under 100lbs and get it, or you could be over 100lbs and muscular and low body fat and not get it. It's common for female athletes to have irregular periods. Your body thinks it needs a certain amount of fat as energy stores to be able to get itself through a pregnancy and if you don't have enough body fat you won't cycle because your body thinks you won't be able to support it nutritionaly which would be dangerous for you and the baby.
