I was born with a heart condition and have had to have many surgeries. Now I become depressed about it. I'm only 20. I worry I may die. Obviously I dont want to yet. So what do I do? How do I feel better? I didn't ask to be born this way. So why me? Most other people get at least a chance to be healthy. How do I stay positive? I get depressed.

It all depends on your perspective. Stop focusing on what is wrong with your life, and concentrate on what is right with your life instead. For example, many people don’t have the intelligence or the money to go to college. Consider yourself fortunate. Everyone has some type of handicap, and most people consider their handicap as a challenge to overcome, not as something that holds them back. Make the most of what you have got.

No one knows exactly how long that they will live, and no one has the strength, the flexibility, the money, or the opportunity to do everything that they want to. Most people learn to accept themselves the way that they are, and move on with their life. Many people find some solace in religion; they assume that God made them this way for a reason and that God knows what he is doing, and they accept their fate as being what is best for them as determined by God, instead of viewing their handicaps as a curse or limitation.

Quit feeling sorry for yourself, and get out there and enjoy your life by doing the things that you CAN do. Use your imagination, and you will come up with something. Take a martial art, develop a hobby, go bike riding, go hiking, take a dance class (good way to meet girls), or an art class and keep yourself busy. Every moment that you are feeling sorry for yourself is a moment wasted.

Happiness is a choice. Depression is a choice. You have to decide to be happy by thinking about the things in life that you are grateful for.

First, you HAVE to be positive.....having that why me attitude is a downer. Remember there are thousands of people worse off than you. Write down the positive things in your life and what you do have and are/should be thankful for. Do you work? Focus on activities for yourself if you dont......LIFE IS SHORT.............enjoy it !
