I just generally like hugs, both being on the receiving end and on the giving end. Most ways are good, provided they aren't inappropriate.

front, from a person I know and trust
from the back if you dont know who it is it can be a difficult moment
their can be demonic transfers and there can be sensual selfishness in it too.
and sometimes just nice words can be better than a hug, but when you feel down or another does a hug can be a very sweet thing!

I don't like being touched. However, there are two people I allow to hug me. Just not from behind. Giving or receiving to me is the same thing when it comes to hugs.

I like to get hugs! I also like to see the person I'm hugging so I would rather hug from the front.

i'm SO not a 'touchie feelie' kinda girl, so i guess i'd rather GIVE a hug-at least then,i know it's coming.
and i mostly can't stand 'from behind' hugs. I'm usually trying to do something , and then, without any notice -i am confined from doing what i was doing. and Then what am i supposed to do? turn around and reciprocate ,while my pasta water boils over? : / bloodyhell. i'd really rather not.errr

Hugging is natural way of expressing warmth and friendship, consolation in times of trouble. It's not 'gay' it is in fact very natural. I enjoy hugs but I don't hug that often, I particularly like hugs from girls but there you go.

Giving hugs makes you feel better because who knows, it could be something that makes their day, especially if they are in a bad mood.
