Hey...whenever 'check disk' is performed it stops at 45 percent of stage 1 of 3. And say 'file segment 77880(something like that) is unreadable. And then nothing happens and I just restart the computer and skip disk check. So what's the problem? And how do I fix it. Please help. Thanks.

You should always let it go though even if it takes a while....

What you need to do is check you hard disk.....

start, run. Type in explorer and hit OK. Click the folder button on the top bar. Navigate using the menu on the left to My computer. ON the right will be a list of drives...

Right-click on the C drive and go to properties.... Click on tools and under error checking.... Click check now.... Let if go all the way......It will tell you how bad the disk is and it will recover data from the bad spots....

After you are done, run the disk defrag, the second option....

If you disk is bad, or has bad spots, back up you data for the disk will not have long before it is useless and you will have to buy another one...

These tools might also be in this location:

start, programs, accessories, system tools.

Hi,
Sorry to say but it sounds like you have a Hard Disk problem, so please keep your Files Backed Up, are you still running 98 or ME if you are maybe it's time to think about an Upgrade of your System, HD can fail at any time. Hope this helps you.

Friend,

There seems to ME a problem in the Hard disc, at that particular point.

You first take up back up copies of all important data.Or purchase a external hard disc and store the entire data into it.

Then see if there is any problem with your Hard disc.It should be 90%.So tou have no option to remove that and instal a new one.
Install a new one and reload all data .

I think you have a realproblem..

see a hard ware engineer.
Good luck.

Try running chkdsk in Safe Mode. To get to safe mode, click the F8 key while booting and select "Safe Mode" from the resulting menu.

If that doesn't work, you might try a program called "SmartClose" which closes all but essential programs. (The problem chkdsk and defrag have is that they are constantly interrupted by programs running in the background and need to restart their process.)

Also make sure your anti virus and spyware apps are up to date.

best thing you can do is to consult the Service Engineer of your area.. who are doing good job when it comes to fixing software problems.. Only thing is that you should be lucky to get sincere hand . also complain to your supplier , dealer who will depute some service engineer.

Do not rely on quakes on Yahoo Answers.. Better spend money and enjoy peace than save money and loose the peace

Your HD may be failing, or the registry might be going bad. Start to back up your files.
