Hannon, Schmidt, Czerny, and the Little Pischna are all great. To play fast though, you really need to play slowly to start. Then, once a song is "in your hands," so to speak, you can gradually increase the tempo. As you practice, you need to make sure that your fingers are practically on the keys at all times to minimize the amount of effort. Also make sure your hands don't get tense. You could get tendinitis from that kind of tension!!

Practice. The only way to be able to play fast is to take the movement out of your conscious brain and into your "muscle memory". If you have to think about what you're doing you will never ever be fast enough. Learning exercises (like the dreaded Czerny) is very good for that, the trouble is they are so terribly boring. By learning I mean not only being able to play it, but being able to memorise it with the correct (or at least consistent) fingering AND play it very fast. A piece that I did that with is Bach's 2nd prelude in C minor, it sounds pretty cool and it's essentially a lot of broken chords, and I can play it very fast now I hardly have to think about it. Of course scales and arpeggios are always handy, especially if you're playing solos - you NEED to know all your scales.

Trying buying some books of piano exercises/techniques. They may be boring, but they do you a lot of good.

Basically, your fingers get faster through use. In that sense, even typing can get your piano playing faster. But the best way to build speed is to spend time everyday on scales. Hanon is best. If you want to, you can force yourself a bit faster each time. But even going slow will build your speed because you are using the muscles.

Break your Hanon into 2 parts; do a half hour before breakfast & a half hour before bed.

Bottom line, that is THE fastest way to increase your finger strength & speed. And it works out each finger. If you don't do this you will probably never really become the player you'd like to be.

I would suggest the Hanon, Schmidt or even Little Pischna to the very minimum, try playing and learning more "pieces" instead of putting too much time on those. But selecting the appropriate piece is important ! You can even learn different techniques from the pieces. The piano repertoire is very large so there are a lot of stuff you can work on.

I think even typing on the computer would help. Just work to increase your WPM speed. That should translate pretty well into keyboard/piano speed as well.

Just practice. i think that's the best way...

.....hmmmmm instead of trying to walk on your hands try walking using only your fingers....that will increase their strength & endurance.

Other than that you can try that stick the knife between your fingers thing really fast, fast, fast.....faster.......

I hear its great for reflexes as well.
