I live in Dubai and anything goes. In the daytime people walk around in vest tops and shorts or jeans and in the evening out in the bars and clubs it would give any other metropolitan city a run for its money. Just understand that Ramadan is due to start Oct 14th for one month and during Ramadan it is better to be a little more conservative ie tshirts and trousers rather than short skirts etc but even then there are no rules enforcing this.

I've been on vacation in Dubai, and from what I've seen modesty is the key. That doesn't mean being covered up at all times by no means. Short sleeves, capris, whatever, it's all acceptable. However, while staying there I've only seen maybe a couple of girls dressed in tank tops and mini skirts, and the response they got from men and/or women was less than flattering.

Around your hotel you can generally wear the normaly holiday stuff but if you plan on visiting any malls or the gold souks cover your sholders and legs espically if you are a young woman because you willl get stared and leered at by the arabic males. its not nice and feels really uncomforatable. you don't need to goover the top andwear a burka but just use your common sense. By the way the malls all have a/c so don't worry about getting over heated.

Hi Jane,
It depends on what you are doing. Bikinis are fine around a hotel pool or beach club, say, but covering up with light garments when shopping would be correct to avoid any offense. I would not consider any dress code in Dubai to be enforced strictly, but I feel it is only correct to remember that you are in a Muslim country as a guest, and folks will appreciate correct dress for cicumstance.

No, your allowed to wear anything u want
The city of Dubai is a tourist area and everyone is from a different country. But i do reccomend not wearing anything above your knees....
so no mini skirts, and strapless tops? no. you'll feel like your being watched. which u probably are. ( lol )
Dubai is a fantastic city , trust me, you'll have fun!

Dressing modestly is the right way to go as this means you also respect the local customs too. By dressing modestly I mean not showing the arms or wearing very short dresses.

Don't worry there are lots of foreigners in Dubai and the locals don't really care wat u dress up like. They treat you really special and nice especially when you go on those little tours around the place. You don't have to cover up , I've seen lots of women with shorts and tanks there, Hope you have lots of fun! Dubai is a beautiful place and when you go near the palace in Abeu Dabi u'll see lots of peacocks roaming around. They're gorgeous*
