Front bearing of the alternator is bad or, if there is no automatic tensioner, the belt is too tight---should be an inch of deflection---push the belt up and down--- on the longest span of the belt between two pulleys.Adjust as necessary.

All that and HIGH RPM'S, you could get an oversized pulley to reduce the rpm's of the alternator, it won't affect the efficiency all that much, but will dramatically improve the cooling and life of the part.

alternator bearing is a possibility but you can usually hear it or see the pulley vibrate, you should also check the belt if it is loose or incorrectly fitted it will slip and over heat the pulley.

CHECK THE ALTERNATOR BEARING AND THE WATERPUMP BEARING, PUT YOU NOSE NEXT TO THE ALTERNATOR AFTER RUNNING IT. SHUT IT DOWN FIRST. THEN SMELL FOR BURNING SMELL. WATERPUMP CHECK WHEN SHUT DOWN, TRY TO FEEL FOR A LOT OF PLAY IN THE PULLEY AT THE PUMP. TOO MUCH PLAY AND THE PUMP IS READY TO GO. CHECK FOR LOOSE AND WORN BELTS FIRST.

the only thing i can think of that overheats the pulley is the front bearing in the alternator.
