i opened a campus edge checking account with bank of america.. and when i opened it the man told me that bank of america DOES NOT charge student accounts overdraft fees as long as i deposit the money i overdrafted within 2 weeks.
so i overdrafted like $4 the other day.. but i returned one of my textbooks the next day and got the money back.. and they charged me a $35 fee.. but i didnt see it right away. and then i overdrafted another $2 after buying another textbook.. but then deposited money back in a few hours later. and they charged me ANOTHER $35 fee.
So when i called up customer service they told me there was nothing they could do about it.
But the bank gave me false information when i opened the account. the only reason i opened it was because i thought that it was a really great thing that the bank was doing, and no other bank does that..
so how is that my fault that i was given false information?
that is the banks fault. and they should refund my money to me. but they wont.

Bank of America will often waive one fee, no questions asked. Don't call the customer service number...actually go into the banking center and ask to speak with one of the personal bankers. Ask them about the "Stuff Happens" guarantee. They'll waive ONE overdraft fee for you under that policy. Generally, you can talk them into waiving the overdraft fee due to the small amount that you went over.

Unless you can find the man who opened your account, you're going to have a difficult time convincing Bank of America that their employee told you incorrect information. Instead of being indignant, go with humility to the banking center and ask them to help you out.

I've been a Bank of America customer for years, and on several occasions, I've benefitted from the relationships I've established with the personal bankers in my banking center.

Can you prove the guy told you this? Do you have it in a document or something that the guy gave you? If you have that then go to the bank and show them the document and explain that there is a mistake somewhere.

Even without the information written down, you could go to the bank and talk with a manager and see if you can explain the story. It might be helpful if you have friends who also signed up and were told the same thing. I don't expect much of a chance of success unless you have it in a document the guy gave you. It is still worth a try though. It will probably take you an hour and it is a potential $70 return.

I am betting that you either misunderstood the guy or he was flat out lying. Banks make a lot of money on fees. With checking accounts, the overdraft fee is the king of fees. I would doubt that many banks do not charge overdraft fees.

I have never heard of an account not charging overdraft fees that's how banks make money-did the bank give you a disclosue or a phamplet with this information on it because if you had it written down on paper from the bank I would think you would be able to get some of the funds reversed.

Unfortuantely you probably won't get your money back regardless of what the banker told you. The only thing you can do is go through all the paperwork you signed for the account and read the fine print to see if there are any clauses regarding student accounts. The best thing you can do for yourself is to start balancing your checkbook after EVERY purchase regardless of whether you are only using your debit card......this will ensure you actually have the funds to cover your purchases.
