I prefer a house simply because I don't like having other people on the other side of my walls, and having to adjust my noise/behaviors to accomodate them.

Well, it just depends on the person and what you want. We have 3 kids ( boys) and it is a huge blessing to have a house on a lot on a dead end culdesac. With children, usually the more room you have, the better. If you are older or don't have children and you don't like yard work and don't mind neighbors being really close to you, then a condo would be great too. Here in Colo where I live, homes ( stick built, not mobile) retain their value and provide great equity. In a year and half our equity has increased almost 100,000 in the home we bought. Here, condos or townhomes do not have that sort of value. If you have the money, it is usually more profitable to buy a home on a lot. Where I live, the bigger the lot and the more property, the higher the value.

Another thing to consider - with a condo, what happens to your home in larger part will depend upon the condo association. They will impact some fees you need to pay, what exterior changes and repairs can be made, and even the lawn maintenance. I recently moved from a condo to a house because the association was made of of very nice, well meaning but ill-informed people. While they were open to listening to explanations, the fact that I was contantly having to give them on even the most basic things scared me.

Do you like constant noise? If so you might like a condo. I bought a beautiful condo thinking of, no upkeep, no lawns to
mow. Well, I am back to the upkeep and I pay to have my lawn mowed. In a condo there are people surrounding you. The location makes a difference, but if it is fun city, then the
place will have a lot of rentals and the people are there to party. They don't care about the neighbor, and neither do the
managers because the rentals bring in cash! If you like to hear people coming & going at all times. Then you might fit
in just fine. As for me, no way!!

I guess it all depends on your personal preference. I'm not a city person by any means and prefer a house with LOTS of land. For those who love living in the city would probably be used to and prefer a condo.
My vote is for house and lot!

It depends if you like a calm, peacefull surrounding then a house and a lot would be better, if you like a noisier, more active place then a condo in a city would be better
