Marking the beginning of yet another dispute over free speech and religious sensitivity, the government of Pakistan has joined Iran in protesting the publication in a Swedish newspaper of a sketch featuring the head of Mohammed on the body of a dog.

Like it or not, these drawings are incendiary speech, because that's their effect on the Muslims. There will be more riots. Such "cartoons" should be banned, just as Nazi symbols are banned in Europe. It's a question of keeping the peace, and safety for citizens vs. an unclever cartoon that's nothing more than a deliberate provocation.

The fact that the "artist" doesn't even have the drawing skills of a fourth grader shows what a cheap stunt the drawing is. There's no clever double meaning here, just that Mohammad is a beast that doesn't belong in a modern city. The idea that Islam is an antiquated religion or that Mohammad was a false prophet could be conveyed in an editorial much more eloquently, and with no danger of riots. (But no publicity for the obscure regional newspaper).

To me, this is not a free speech issue, it's a question of whether dangerous, irresponsible speech can be limited for the greater good of society when there are alternative, and better modes of expression.

Am asking is there is anything truly on earth to be loved as Muslims do love their religion?

Look at their hajj! How many people go there 1000 or 2000?

And don't even try to compare Christian reactions to Muslim reactions. I don't recall murder and violence being the norm for a Christian reaction, but it is the Muslim reaction. And the violence of the typical Muslim reaction is what the cartoons are pointing out.

And no, when tens and hundreds of thousands of people the world over are dying at the hands of Muslims in the name of Allah and the Prophet, in the name of a religion that was spread by war and violence, then it deserves to be ridiculed and harassed.

Issuing statements saying that this is offensive is fine. I only have a problem with tolerating violence over these cartoons or insisting on government censorship. Asking the newspapers to be respectful of people's beliefs is reasonable.

Also, at least the Danish cartoons were well-drawn and most of them had a point. This one is just terrible.

Now how does anybody know that that's the head of the Prophet? I mean its a violation of Islam to even depict his head. There are no pictures of him. So how does anybody know that this thing looks anything like him not even considering the dog part?

Would it be a violation of Islam to perceive that the cartoon is actually a characterization of the Prophet?

Bad drawning. Why would you insult someone religion with a cartoon. I think its a little silly that you cant draw pictures of Muhammad but I think THEIR view point and it should be respected. Honestly there will be backlash and maybe its deserved.
