The comments thus far indicate some disagreement as to the meaning of your question. I take it that by "realism" you mean a certain philosophical position about perception and knowledge.

A realist holds roughly, as I understand the term:
1) that the world outside of my skull is roughly the same whether I know anything about it or not,
2) that the world impinges itself upon my senses, causing the formation of certain ideas inside my skull, and
3) that if my senses are working normally, non-pathologically, the ideas within the skull should accurately correspond to the world outside.

I can see how, if I did hold to that sort of picture of how perception and understanding work, it might alienate me from God, because my understanding of God didn't arise in anything like that way.

But since I'm not a realist in that sense, I'm not alienated.

This has been an interesting question. Thanks.

Hi,
I think my ability to analyse, probe, question, examine, if anything has brought me closer to God. Realism in a traumatic event in the life of my sister leaving her paralysed alienated me from God for a while. But that experience and that break away from the Church gave me a chance to really look into my beliefs: what lies deep, deep inside. As a consequence I am even more content and confident about what I believe in now than ever before.
I also believe everything happens for a reason and trials in life are there to help strengthen our personality and develop our spirituality.

Realism is related to God or God is just a fantasy.

The concept of religion has alienated me from god. I suppose i can concur, yes realism has, but it's not a bad thing.

i was a member of church going back awhile.but through a lot of hardships i have strayed away . but i still feel that God is in my life .and i still try to follow the right principles of the bible.and not to add negative input in the lives i come across,on my path.i am aware that this journey can be very hard work to stay focused on the real enlightenment of truth.so yes you are right realism has alienated me from God in a way.

Certainly not, for that which man perceives are real or reality is not that which God perceives as absolute and real. As seekers of the truth, be it spirit ward or not, one who travels the road less traveled that of seeking God through understanding HIS THOUGHTS and not ours, knows there is a difference in realism and Reality.

In the past, my realism has indeed alienated me from God, because I share the common secular, inflated ego which is the zeitgeist of modern society. We are trained to satisfy ourselves, sating our appetites on beer, food, clothing, music, and violent entertainment, and lead somewhat decadent lifestyles. We are trained to question authority and to demand rights. We ignore values and mock those who want to return to those values. All of this, stifling our culture, has alienated just about everyone who does not seek a spiritual existence, from God.

I will truly never become alienated from God. Realism is life, the struggles, the joys, the sadness, the anxieties, the love . . . . . this is what life is. It is what it is, living.

What is realism?

That everything that exists just happened by chance? That's like saying a magic show is not all tricks.

Think about it, what is really real?

Actually it has been my realism that has brought me closer to God. My realism gives me peace.
