agree... i think it means that when planting one wheat seed for example, it will produce 8 more ... so does the good in our world... one good deed will produce much more...!

no sorry, just because you plant something does not make it grow, this goes for this proverb as well.
you must plant tend very carefully and maybe someday if your very lucky you will get enough back to keep from starvation.
thats my version of that proverb.
