Recently in the news I discovered a US Senator was arrested for "soliciting sex in an airport bathroom".

Let me say now, I am straight, married, and morally traditional in general.

I have issue with the fact that he 1) Attempted to hire a prostitute, and 2) Is a married man making that adultery.

What I want to know is. Is the Senator being treated unfairly? Meaning..is being treated more harshly than a straight man would, if he attempted to hire a female prostitute?

This chaps my @ss a bit on account that historically many US Politicians have had affairs, and used prostitutes and have kept they're jobs in office. ( Take Bill Clinton for example )

Why is he being forced to "step down"?

Is it just me or is this guy getting extra crap, because the person he intended to solicit was male.

Is this gay prejudice more than "reprimand for Un-ethical behavior"?

Toffeefan: Here Here! Very good point, I think I just take issue with politics being involved in our sex lives in general.

Senator Crigs arrest came as a result of the local police trying to crack down on illicit activities taking place in mens rooms at the local airport. They treated him no differently than they have others arrested for this purpose. He was allowed to plead guilty to disorderly conduct rather than soliciting.

As for why his party is trying to force him out there are a three reasons.

1) He was involved in Mitt Romney's campaign for president. Romney is campaigning as a true conservative and has quickly distanced himself from the publicity brought on by Craig.

2) Craig was an active voice in condemning President Clinton and a supporter of the Defence Against Marriage Act which sought to make gay marriage illegal by federal law.

3) The Republicans can aford to force him out as he represents a Republican state with a Republican governor. His appointed replacement will be a Republican and they will thus not lose a seat. If he came from a Democrat state it would probably be a different matter.

Personally, I have no problem seeing anyone who supported the Defence Against Marriage Act and then engaged in activities such as this being forced out. Hypocracy chaps my @ss.

First he is being blasted because he speaks out against gay rights, second didn't Clinton get years of being criticized for having sex with a straight woman and not in a public bathroom? I am sure it goes on all the time and people don't realize it but there have been plenty of "straight scandals" as well. The reason that the gay ones are so much more interesting is because the people that are doing it are the same people who argue that homosexuality is a sin. It's like when Limbaugh used to call people filthy drug addicts and then admitted to being addicted to drugs. They are all hypocrites.

I think he's being asked to step down because people really don't wanna hear about any more scandal in Washington, there is plenty already. The approval ratings are down, and this would just add fuel to the fire. I do think this guy is being thrown uner the bus a bit though, you're right he's definitely not the first politician to have an affair, even if he was soliciting a guy. I don't think it's prejudice exactly, more shame at another helping of scandal. =)

You have to understand, he was a republican, and as a republican, he is supposed to have higher moral standards than the left. If it was a democrat, there would be public outcry over the way he was being raked over the coals. "What people do in the privacy of their own homes (public restrooms/bath houses/the city of San Francisco) is their business."

you probably have a point there. the fundamentalist christian right wing republicans would not be making such a to do about this had he been soliciting females.
