Life is a competition. Think of it as a bunch of teams.
Which team is the good team? Why ours of course, though the members of other teams think there own team is the good team.
So what is good person? A good person is a well behaved member of the good team.
What is a bad person? A bad person is any member of another team (aka enemy), or a member of the good team that cheats or plays against their own team members (aka criminal)
.
So let's say two teams compete, and one wins and the other loses.
On the winning team, everyone thinks that good things happen to good people & bad things happen to bad people.
On the losing team, people wonder why bad things have happened to good people & good things have happened to bad people.
Got it? On an international or intertribal level the answer you your question is 'It's inevitable.'
What about criminals? If a thief steals and gets away with it, a good thing has happened to a bad person. For the honest man he stole from a bad thing has happened to a good person.
Why did this happen? Because the thief in the pursuit of personal good has violated team good. The only way to discourage such behavior is for the team to visit a whole bunch of personal evil on the thief.
So, whether you are talking about criminals or enemies, good things will happen to bad people, and bad things will happen to good people unless the team works diligently to make sure it's the other way around.
And so to all you Americans wringing your hands because so much of the world thinks we're the bad guys, I say DUH!
Get your head in the game, because you are in fantasy land if you think you can be on a winning team without someone thinking you are evil.

Mainly because we think that we should always have a smooth ride in life. That happiness is our right. It is not ....even our constitution does not say so...it only guarantees the right to pursue happiness as we ourselves see it.
Our perception of that is good comes into play too, society has marketed such ideas and concepts that we become what our marketeers have made us ....good or bad.
Good people are bound to step into some bad stuff once in awhile. No one is promised a rose garden.
Bad people have a keen sense of how to use that which is good for the purposes of getting what they want at the expense of others. Power, fame, etc. Usually come with a very high price that we....as onlookers do not see. Take a look at our celebrities, Brittany, Hilton, etc. and theyt are just those under the populace microscope. Look at all the world leaders!!
Good and bad, happens to us all...even the good guy and the bad guy.

"Why, why, why me?!" yells a buisness man as his bus rolls away, leaving him at the bus stop, late yet again to a meeting.
"Why does this happen to me?!", he yells.
Bad things happen to good people. That can not be denied. If a little kid accidentally drops a piece of china, he is sent to his room! Is that fair?
But wait. The kid grows and learns from his mistakes.
Interesting.
The buisness man mentioned above learns from his mistakes, the faults, and the "bad things", and grows stronger.
Bad things happen to good people because the good people grow from them and get stronger ("gooder"- my English teacher is going to get a kick out of that word).
Good things happen to bad people, partly because those people do not know how to deal with anything else. Soon enough, they hit a brick wall, and its the end of their career.
Thats a moralistic view. To take it on a much more definite level, lets take it from God's view.
God has a purpose for everything and every action. The rain rains on the just and the unjust. On the bad and good. Yet, how we react to what we have been given is how we look at life. I prefer the bad times, because those define my limits and how I can grow.
Good things also happen to good people too. Yet we focus on the bad sometimes. Have you heard of the space shuttle mission that had a golf-ball size dent in the shuttle? Most people dont realize that THAT same mission replaced vital equipment on the International space station. Go figure. People want the bad and not the good.
Good people grow from difficulty. Bad people dont. Thats what keeps the good strong. And the bad weak.
Hope this helps. I try to take everything from a moralistic view, but its soo much easier to include God, because then, there is an absolute and the perfect answer. :-)

Because much of life just happens in a hit and miss sort of fashion. That is why you should not take anything too seriously and you need to be forgiving and accepting of people and situations that differ from your own. Much of what happens to people is the result of good or bad luck. That's why I get really annoyed by people who pretend they've earned all they have and that people with less are lazy and undeserving. Your efforts can sway things a little this way and that, but total control of destiny is complete nonsense.
Cheers!

Good question! I've wondered about this one myself. Karma eventually evens things out, but sometimes I think it takes a while!!
I recently read a quote from cherishyourday.com that I think might be helpful as well. It says "People are not prisoners of fate, they are prisoners of their minds."
What is "good" and what is "bad" are really just ideas. There's no way to measure them. People are also really secretive and hide what's really going on. They might seem "good" or "bad" but they're really not.
I hope this helps and not just a bunch of personal rambling!

i have answered this question before but i will try again bad things happen to good people for one reason, because they are good and not under the influence of Satan. read John chapters 17 and 18. good things happen to bad people because they are doing the work of Satan and here in this life is all they will have in the way of reward.

Because good people give consideration to the advantages of others when they make decisions about things that benefit them while the bad ones tresspass their boundaries and claim the possessions and belongings of those who are good. More importantly, they don't hesitate to be the owners of all the 'good' things either smartly or the hard way, regardless of whom they might be hurting in the process.

I wish I knew,really.
but I think that here is the theory of relativism.
If your mean friend have more luck right now, and you don't you will think...you see good things happen to mean people.
However, when something good happens to you, then probably to your mean friend happens something bad, and he/she might think, why good things happen to other people?
I hope you understood my point.

It's all about focus. Observe!
Notice if the traffic gets better when you are upset.
Notice if when the parking spot opened up right at the perfect time and place if you were feeling positive or negative prior to the event.
Notice, notice, notice. Find out your answer for yourself. Make notes in your diary or journal.
Pretend you are your own guardian angel, no matter if you don't believe they exist or not, pretend they do for this experiment. It is incredible fun, incredible joy.
