I was just told by a woman at work to stay away from this other woman because she thinks she has the chicken pox. What could happen to me from being exposed? I had chicken pox when I was 21. I will be 18 weeks pregnant tomorrow. Thanks for all advice. And please don't say "I don't know why don't you call the Doctor" I don't know if she has them or not yet.

I know I can't get the chicken pox again!!! I was just curious if anything like shingles could affect the baby.

adults can get chicken pox if they havent had it as a child that information is not correct that they get shingles. if you havent had chicken pox u could catch it and could be really ill ( i was when 4 months pregnant with my now 20 year old son), no problem except i felt awful for about 10 days and u have to be careful about being dehydrated. usual symptoms are feeling flu=y for a couple of days followed by blister like spots. if any symptoms then contact doctor othewise just wait and see.

My sister who was five months pregnant when she caught chicken pox from her two other older children had a miscarriage. Your friend is right better stay away just in case. Prevention is better than cure.

I was exposed to chicken pox when I was about 30 weeks pregnant with my daughter....I called my dr to let her know and she said not to worry. It may be different for how far into the pregnancy you are...I don't know for sure. To be safest, wait until you know for sure whether or the other lady has them, and if she does, let your dr know that you have been exposed to them and go from there....good luck to you!!!!

my six year old son just had chicken pox i was 35 weeks. i called the nurse line at my ob and she said that since i had them when i was little then my anti bodies would protect me and the baby. so have no fear. if you had them you have nothing to worry about.

As long as you have actually built up an immunity to them (it is sometimes possible for people to get them over and over, but it is very rare), your baby should be fine. You and your baby are sharing bodily fluids, etc. Your antibodies will protect your child in the womb. The only worry you would have is actually getting them yourself, which is highly unlikely.

Adults can get chickenpox, but only if they didn't catch them when they were younger. People who have had chickenpox already can get shingles from people who have chickenpox though.

Chickenpox and Shingles are two different things.

You'll have a chicken?

I seriously don't think anything as long as you already had them.
